I take some B complex supplements as I read that Metformin can interfere with B12 absorption..

Here’s the vapours for Ruby. ( I don’t like to disappoint🙂)

Taking stuff to detox your liver is a bit like ironing underwear. It’s pointless, because that’s what the liver is - detox central. Unless your liver is utterly wrecked, it cheerfully removes toxins (like alcohol) from your bloodstream, and doesn’t need any help to do it. It doesn’t get clogged up doing that, either.

Just saying🙂

I don't like to disappoint either, sooooooo - I do think there is merit in helping our overworked organs out a bit, now and again. I have a Chinese medicine clinic near me, run by qualified doctors and they know a think or two about herbs - if you can stomach the smell and the bitterness and don't mind robbing pandas and tiger's of their vital fluids, I think they can be beneficial.

I stick to bog standard teabags and think of it as a spring clean - a gentle flush - rather than a vital, medical intervention.

I'd like to take supplements since I have no love for or liking for vegetables (apart from the starchy ones)….however I take Warfarin indefinitely so cannot.

It’s not a straightforward area for people with additional conditions for sure. Somebody suggested I take fish oil for my joints but with leukaemia, it’s hazardous because the omega 3 can interfere with platelet function, increasing the risk of bleeding.

It’s where to get really good advice on interactions. I had to source masses of reputable research for my GP before he optimised my deficient VitD. GP’s just don’t get much training on these things.

I wanted to take glucosamine & chondroitin Amigo...my pharmacist advised that would be fine...bought some (they're not cheap)… only to find they can affect my INR levels...it's tricky alright.

That’s why I prefer physical treatments for joint pains, I always jump to the TENS machine first. No side effects or interaction.

I’m not convinced that swallowing glucosamine and chondroitin can help joint pain generally. There’s some thin evidence of folk with knee pain being helped, but not hip pain. I suspect the capsules are digested and broken down in the liver without going anywhere near joints. I don’t think you’re missing out, Bubbsie.🙂

I wouldn't dream of taking glucosamine & chondroitin for pain relief.

My friend is on lifelong Warfarin and she has to be so careful with prescribed meds and does not take supplements for that reason. I know how difficult it is with warfarin listening to her.

Research I’ve read on glucosamine and chondroitin hasn’t been particularly positive on the therapeutic use for joints but I know people who swear by them. The placebo effect can be persuasive I suspect.

Oh it can be a pain in the b*m Mazz...one look in the wrong direction and your INR levels are unbalanced...I have no love of leafy green vegetables.. but I had thought about blitzing them & adding them to soups & casseroles...even that is off limits since there is too much vitamin K in them...so it's back to the drawing board.

I did take them for a few days before I discovered they would interact with the Warfarin Amigo...it did make me feel like I was doing something to improve my very limited diet (hate veggies)… so possibly a placebo effect...yes...if that worked I'd have been satisfied with that.🙂

My ma in law isn’t massively keen on veggies, hates salad and can’t stand most fruit. She’s 91 soon!
