hi thanks for allowing me to join i have a question my mum who has been on metformin for years was last year put on Insuline which has stabalised her count know she has just with out consultation been changed to Sukkarto and is worrying about the side effect issue with bowels as she has IBS this is causing her to stress unable to talk to GP

Welcome to the forum @mandyg70. 🙂

Sorry to hear that your mum's getting these side effects. How long has she been taking Sukkarto? Hopefully the symptoms will be temporary and subside soon. If they persist she would be best to contact her GP. Why wasn't she able to get in touch with them?

Thanks for the reply our GP surgery seems to be still be working under pandemic system so everyone is on phone consults but i think getting to see the pope would be easier 😉

just be weary of sukarto has a different coating on the tablets which if you react to it is awful squits. if the trots do happen do not be afraid to ring your gp and demand a brand change. personally i would rather risk drinking a pint of water from the ganges than take sukarto again.

Sukkarto SR is a slow release brand of Metformin.
It has a shellac coating which can be very harsh on the stomach. It’s also pennies cheaper than other brands which is why chemists will try putting them in your order. If you are fine on them continue as your are if not change brands

I personally find it no more harsh then any other brand, and my CCG recommend GP'S prescribe this brand.

That’s a bit like saying I can’t be thirsty because you are drinking a pint. Everyone is different

Sorry to hear that you Mum is having difficulties with her medication.
I am aware that some find the slow release metformin, of which Sukarno is one, is a lot easier on their system. However if your Mum reacts to this do encourage her to contact her GP and ask for an alternative.

Keep in touch and fire away with any questions that you have.
Nothing is considered silly on here.
