My doctor must be pretty unusual then, he told me from the start to cut right down on the carbs. Mind you he's an Aussie maybe that has some bearing in his attitude.

Yes that must be the reason !! mostly all Doctors , DSN's will advise you to fill up with Carbs at every meal and have Carb snacks , supper etc 😱 then they moan that your levels are rising or not improving 🙄

totally agree alison u think ohh happy days somethines sugar free you read the back of the label and its stuffed with carbs etc etc, many a times ive fallen in the trap of getting it at the shop cause it says sugar free opened ate and then read the labe, doh!! silly me

Sweetner!!!!............................Try Honey, in tea/Coffee....on cereal etc etc. I love it😉

VBH, thanks for clarifying - always best to use name in full, with initials in brackets, then using juts initials later on - especially when the same initials can stand for different things. BDA also stands for British Dental Association, which might also have added to potential confusion with British Diabetes Association.

BDA = British Dietetic Association.

Professional body of dietitians in the UK. Of course DUK and the NHS in general, DESMOND, XPERT, etc get their dietary recommendations from the BDA and DoH. Hence them all having the same illogical line about basing your meals on starchy carbs.

But yes, DUK also used to be BDA and I think the name change was because of the confusion.

Or:
British Dyslexia Association
British Deaf Association
British Decorators Association (I hope they tossed Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen out)
British Deming Association (what's Deming I wonder?)

I reckon that's enough of that eh?

i knew mt doctor was rubbish

I have been trying to follow a diet reccomended by my doctor which is high in carbs. He said the biggest part of every meal or snack should be carb based. I have trouble balancing by blood glucose could this be why?

I dont even understand why they would ever think of giving that advice?! Why would anyone NEED to have carb based snacks?? especially type 2's. Crazy.

In my opinion yes it is , this is only my opinion though and not medical advice.
Carbs turn to sugar, which in turn highers Glucose levels :( if you eat less Carbs then your body will take the energy it needs from other food sources eg. Protein. I follow a Low Carb / Restricted Carb Diet and eat hardly any Carbs by personal choice . If you even reduce the amount of Carbs / portion sizes that you eat daily you will see visible results on your meter and then your scales as Carbs do tend to encourage weight gain. Quite a few members Restrict Carbs to a certain extent some Type 2's and also like myself Type 1's .

Fair enough Copepod, I should have been clearer. Its a bit annoying that they all have the same acronym and even 9 years after rebranding themselves there's still confusion about DUK/BDA's name. I have a nice image of the British Dental Association being confused as to why they are being blamed for high carb dietary recommendations for diabetics now though lol.

Diabetes Fact #1: Carbs raise BG.

So the answer to your question is: Yes.

The best approach as found by hundreds (if not thousands) of T2s online worldwide has been to work out your own tolerance for carbs and find meals which work for you personally. Everyone is different so its a case of finding what works for you.

Have a read of this:
