Hi
I am currently on Levemir but waiting to get a pump. Last few weeks have been on 17 units AM and 3 units PM of Levemir. Yesterday lowered that to 16 units but I'm now finding all of a sudden my BG is dropping in the afternoon and evening and for lunch today I had 50g of carbs (spaghetti bolognese) which I would usually have to take 3-4 units of fast acting over 2 hours but today I only took 1 unit and my BG rose by about 2 1/2 units for 2 hours and then started go down by itself without me having to take any more fast acting. How can I only need 1 unit of Novo for 50g of carbs! It's so weird it's made me a bit scared. Should I cut back on the Levemir even more - wondering if my hormones are playing up as I am 46 years old but doctors tests say not. Not sure what is going on?
Thanks Anna

Just thinking could it be the cold weather? Then again I don't spend any time outside as work in an office but could this affect this sudden change?

Hello @Anna1

My basal rate rarely stays still for long, and when it changes it can be very rapid as you describe. Suddenly going from relatively reliable doses/correction behaviour to suddenly fighting off hypos right left and centre, or insulin acting like water.

If you are unsure whether it is related to your basal you could run some fasting basal tests to check. There are instructions for pump users in the pump forum, but they are easily adaptable and very useful on injections too.

Thanks Mike some sound advice and nice to know it's not just me as can seem like you're the only one experiencing a certain problem
Thanks
Anna

Yes they change so as Mike suggests a spot of basal testing may be useful. My levemir usage has ranged between 16 units and zero units per day.
