Thought that i would start my studying in advance of the module starting....but less than three hours of studying (with breaks) my sugars have gone up, my bad eye hurts and my head is pounding and I am shattered - similar to times when I was studying earlier in the year...looks like I may have to choose my alternative lifestyle

Amanda, are the reading materials available online or in eBook/PDF format? If they are, and if you're using Windoze 8 there is a thingy that reads stuff out loud*. I've used it a couple of times and it's not great (the scansion is pretty bad in fact) but it might save on eye strain. They also have a British English voice option which is preferable to the Yanqui one. 😉

It's just a thought as I hate to see you lose out when there may be a way around the problem.

* I know there are packages on available that do the same thing, this one just happened to come with my lappy.

Hi Alison

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I've got the files on PDF and have them magnified. I also have software to read them to me but unfortunately I've found that, personally, I can't learn in this way. I'm trying to be positive in that I've got other things that I can do instead of studying - I'm very fortunate that for me this degree would be a "hobby" so it won't be the end of the world if I don't do it...after bursting into tears with frustration I'm going to try and be positive.

sometimes I think our bodies know better than our brains. Every so often I have tummy problems then just want to sleep. My tummy was out this morning, if I was home instead of at work I'd be hoping in to bed now and having a sleep....

Don't give up on it yet, maybe after the eye surgery, you'll be able to see better.

Caroline sorry to hear you're not well. I know what you mean about our bodies telling us when we've taken on too much. I hope that your tummy feels better soon. Thanks Alison I'm not being defeatist but it will be several months until I will know if my eye injections work and if I don't cancel the modules soon I won't get a refund of my fees. It's not just the eye I have to be so careful with the energy that I do have because of the CFS. I thinkI was just being too stubborn thinking that I could study for 24 hours a week.

Thank you the tummy feels better, I always carry a remedy with me just in case.

It is immensly frustrating when we have big plans and ideas then can't do them

I understand Amanda, and I don't think you're defeatist at all, far from it. It's just me getting carried away trying to find solutions without taking all the problems into consideration. 😱

I'm glad you're feeling better Caroline. I'm just going to go back to my alternate plan of enjoying being retired - doing crafty things, going out a bit more now that Susie is well, cooking, playing my flute and possibly my piano, pampering myself, afternoon naps etc...and most importantly I'm going to stop feeling guilty that my body stops me from working and studying - it's nearly a year since I left work so I need to truly accept that this is my new life and that I am very lucky in very many ways🙂

Alison its absolutely lovely of you to suggest solutions, thank you x
