Stupid receptionst

Just tell them to mind their own bloody business; it has nothing whatsoever to do with the receptionist. The Dr or Nurse has put you on the drugs that you need for a very good reason and the Dr has to sign the prescription. I know for a fact if the receptionist questioned me about my prescription the first thing I would ask is what it has got to do with you.

Lou, can you ask your doc to increase what is on your prescription? To get 4 weeks' worth rather than just 2?

I remember back to before I started with thyroid problems and therefore qualified for free prescriptions that as I was coping on a budget my doctor prescribed me 2 months' worth of meds each time so it would help me afford them.

Shame you have to go in really, can it be automated? Through your local chemist perhaps? Sounds like the receptionist has a real problem so if you can avoid her, so much the better.

That was the trouble marg, I do have collection service but they take it up and the receptionist sends it back so the chemist phones me to say I have to go up to sort it out at the surgery lol its rediculous!! I had them changed now to monthly since im not pregnant anymore so instead of 600 strips a month I get 200 lol (i hope that will suit them better) That woman is a witch Im tellin ya haha
My chemist was furious with them too in light of the fact that A) I was pregnant and B) My bloods were up and down like a yoyo so needed to test LOADS lol chemist even said you would think the cost of a prescription would out weigh the cost of any complications form not geting them! lol 🙄

And Lou, Im glad I didnt offend you (im an ass sometimes i tell ya lol) xx

haha seriously. I only get offended when there are adults whispering and pointing in the street. That annoys me!! Jeeze the amount of times I have forgotten I have one hand!!!! The story my other half loves to tell is when I bought a new printer and mumbled something. The hubby looked at me and questioned what I had said. I refused to tell him for half an hour till eventually got it out of me. What I had said was "This could be really hard if you had one hand!" I know, clever aren't I lol =)

Yet another tearful exit from the doctors!!!! Was going to start a thread and (I should've known!) there was one here already on this very topic. Went to pick up my prescription this morning, and yet again, the strips were missing from both our scripts. When I pointed this out, the receptionist, without looking up sez 'she only had them on March 30th - how many does she use'??? I could feel my blood boil and said we are both on insulin and need to test often, sometimes up to 10 times a day!! She stood up, shrugged her shoulders and said (again without looking at me!!) 'I can only ask the dr'!! Lordy, when I was nursing a key skill was teaching junior staff to make sure they make eye contact and listen to the patient!! Simples, you would think!!
Now I have to go back again at 4 o clock and hope shes got it sorted out. I told her I had to buy some to top up and asked if the prescription can be increased to save me all the trips, and reduce the margin of error.
We shall see!!😡

Gloria, that is disgusting treatment. She'd be picking up her teeth with a broken arm if she spoke to me like that - who on Earth does she think she is? You don't need to explain anything to her, but the doctor needs to explain, and justify, why he allows such behaviour.😡

But who decided? I mean is it them or the doc who looks at the repeat and goes hmmm ill play god and not give them x,y and z coz they got it not long ago? do the receptionist print it off and just get doc to sign or does doc do it all? I do understand that the nhs has a budget, hell i work for them but surely the proof is in the pudding that we are not wasting these items and using them to control our condition?
I should refrain from looking at this topic as it makes my blood boil! lol 😱

In most surgeries the receptionists print off the scripts and then the doctor signs them in batches when they get time. The receptionists in the surgery I'm with are really nice, they always give you what you need and if you need extra, say a holiday supply, they're really helpful and sort it out for you. My old doctor's surgery were horrible, they wouldn't let me have any meds at all for my three month long trip to America and I ran out after about 2 weeks and had to fly home again! Then they STILL wouldn't give me any because I had 'only just had them recently'. I was SO ANGRY!

Could I just ask while im here, Do all Diabetics (types)0 attend diabetic clinics (notdrop ins) actual clinics at hospital which are always there ie dont change to a different clinic on different days etc... does that make sense?

It would be better if we could get Diabetes stuff from them thats all, since they know roughly what we realistically need based on the way our diabetes is behaving lol

I go to a clinic but still get my script from docs

yeah so do I. Just wish I didnt have to lol (wishful thinking tho im afraid) 🙄
I was curious about the clinic thing tho, I assume there may be some people who dont have a clinic to go to for other diabetes things

I think that the general situation is that if you are on insulin (whatever type), then you will be treated at a permanent clinic but get your meds from your GP. Those on D&E or pills generally see their GP. But I could be wrong!

Update

OK, went back at 4pm, and yes indeedy, the scripts were ready. And yes, it was still incorrect. When I asked to increase when I started insulin 6 weeks afo, it went from one box of strips to two. But yes, you've guessed it, they didnt delete the one box line, and added another with two boxes. So I gets the one box!!!!!Was so fed up I couldnt be bothered to argue. So I left it.
Woe is me.....
Lol

Peace! (or Else!)

Whoa, steady on, mind the blood pressure. Why is everyone getting so upset and aggressive here? Why did someone (you know who you are) say "She'd be picking up her teeth with a broken arm if she spoke to me like that ". Maybe the receptionist was doing her job - as required by her boss! I have had to refer to my receptionist several times. Sometimes she is at fault, sometimes it is me. Either way, a few minutes discussion always resolves the problem. Tolerance folks, none of us is perfect. Most of us has a boss, all of us on here have a medical concern. Work with those who work for us. Save your anger for those who say "No!" and not for those who say "Why!"

I believe that up here (Ayrshire and Arran) the policy is: Diet and Exercise = GP; Pills and/or insulin = Hospital/Clinic. I have just started on Metformin and am due to see the Specialist/Consultant soon. Prior to that it was monitored by GP staff (HBa1c). Hope this helps - but I suspect it will vary by Country (devolved issue in Scotland, Wales and NI), area and budget within that area.😉

Twas merely a turn of phrase, I am not a violent man 😉 And actually I stick with the rest of what I say, it is not the receptionist's place to question in an open surgery why someone requires something. She is not qualified to make any judgement, only relay (perhaps) that the doctor wishes to speak to the patient about the matter, and a patient should not have his/her business discussed in public.

My own receptionists are, on the whole very pleasant people, but that doesn't mean that there aren't a few surly, superior and judgemental ones out there - as illustrated by the people who have contributed to this thread. Some of them are extremely rude which can be particularly distressing to someone who is probably feeling downtrodden and depressed enough to start with. And this isn't something new, my mother used to get similar treatment many years ago at our old surgery.

I wasnt sure (it was just to get a rough idea of everyones different situations when I talk on ere really 🙄)

Im pretty sure my diabetic clinic sees all of the types of diabetics but its maybe as its a centre and in a building of its own within the hospital grounds... who knows lol

I dont think I could trust my gp with my diabetes lol plus you have to wait a week for your hba1c results and you get it at the same appointment in your clinic, so no need to wait 😉 lol

I am newly diagnosed but don't think I will be referred to anyone else - just the practice nurse. She did say when taking the last blood that if my levels were over a certain number then I would not be referred to the hospital but put straight on tabs. I got the impression I would only be sent to the hospital if there was doubt about whether or not I was diabetic. The surgery I am with only has 2 docs and a nurse.

Oh, and it is the nurse who decides on medication. My doc increased my thyroxine level but after one scrip the nurse disagreed so pulled my signed prescription and changed the doseage. I have to bite my tongue so much I am seriously thinking of switching to another health centre, which does have a diabetes clinic and dietician and chiropodist.

Shouldnt you have a chiropodist anyway? I know you do if you are at a clinic but the fact that you are type two should be important in you having one? We all generally have the same risk of foot complications dont we?

I'm on tablets but i don;t get seen by the hospital diabetic clinic, well, i did once, but they hadn;t realised i'd gotten a GP. Worst luck coz my GP annoys me and the clinic is in the building next door to where i work...and the staff are nice....
I'm lucky coz the receptionists at the doctors are quite nice, wish my doctor was..
