Thought I was a backwards diabetic whilst running low all day today despite a stupid cold

checked just now

22.9 😡

wondered why my foot was giving me a good telling off - seriously...OUCH! Just had 8 units. May check for ketones...eta: negative. Need one of those blood monitors methinks

feel rough as a rough thing. Stupid cold 😡 never noticed this happening before when feeling cak. Grrrrr. This is gunna keep happening for days now, I can see it happening
 
thanks hun. Down to 21.7 (joy.../sarcasm) seriously...ouch. Foot doesn't like my levels atm despite having taken pills. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH SOD YOU DIABETES I GIVE YOU VIRTUAL CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!! 😡😡
 
lol. my new favourite phrase is 'the diabetic inside me is weeping'. i use it when i see anything/have anything ridiculously sugary. like when we went for drinks after work on friday, the cocktail i had had SUGAR SYRUP in it. i SO nearly asked her not to put it in - but there were 3 shots of alcohol in it so i figured it would balance it out, which it did.

whoops, i went completely off topic there. sorry!

oooooooooooh i want a sugar syrup cocktail RIGHT NOW! :( but alas...cannot, not because of highs but because of...other stuff :(

damnit, i wont be able to sleep til its at least in the mid teens 😡
 
there's probably a better way to do it than this, but if it were me i would test again in 10 mins, see if any difference, if not give more insulin.

this was exactly the situation i had the other night. 00:27 and i was 24.1. 01:13 and i was 24.6 and i'd had 5u of novorapid straight after the first test. so i whacked in another 5u...02:30 i was 16.7 so i finally relaxed and went to sleep. before i went to sleep though i got really upset/scared i was going to crash later in the night. but i didn't.

aye i keep testing prety often. Had 10units straight off so am pretty scared once it gets going i'll drop like a stone. Numberwang now says 20.4 so at least its coming down. May check again for ketones, see whats happening there. This is just silly now. I did nothing different at dinner at all, had a couple of units extra due to extra potato but defo covered all the carbs and more. SO WHAT IS GOING ON?

stupid effing cold can go to heck *searches for the beechams, paracetamol and every other cold remedy in the house*

but how comes i was running low at work today??? Its just wierd

I think this calls for a vlog. But tomorrow...when I'm in the place on my own. I get embarrased doing it infront of matt :D

Hey, Sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish. I was just wondering, do you take corrective insulin in between meals with no snack? I have a stupid cold too but didnt know i could try and bring the levels down without meal substinance? Fe x
 
hi fe, yes you can use insulin without food to sort your levels out. you need to be pretty certain as to what ratio you are (for example if 1 unit brings you down 2, 3, 4 points etc). i do this if i have misjudged my insulin requirements at a meal time, plus i did it in the first few days i picked up the lurgy last week (before i actually showed any symptoms - my levels rocketed for about 3 days before i came down with the cold!)
 
Hope you are feeling better Sam, I have got a sore throat again but numbers are good at the moment.
maybe you will have to increase your basal if it goes on for a few days.
 
sounds like we're all ill. Ive got swallon glands and huge tonsils! (gross) I felt really bad yesterday, but not so bad today. I just sound weird haha and keep sneazing.
