I am struggling with control of Type 2 diabetes now I'm no longer able to have test strips prescribed. I did buy strips and found such a difference in how I felt, just seeing for myself that blood sugars were looking good. Being on a pension though I can't afford to buy them every month. I often feel dizzy towards midday, testing myself showed low sugar levels, I mentioned it to the nurse and her advice was to eat a jelly baby. I do try to eat sensibly but get so depressed and tend to eat comfort food - and yes that includes chocolate. Not sure what the answer is, all I know is regular self testing was better, gave me confidence...

can't offer much in the any of help, but lots of people struggle with type 2, me included.

Hi Cairie

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling.
Most T2 that are only on metformin and no other type of drug that actively lowers sugar (like gliclazide for example) are not prescribed test strips as they see it as you are more likely to be high than suffer with lows.
If you are on meds that force you to produce more insulin I believe that they are not allowed to refuse you the means to test yourself.
