Relationship to Diabetes

Hello all. I’m Russ age 38 . Was diagnosed with diabetes in hospital after sepsis. My blood sugar levels were at 30+ for 3 months or more. Never had diabetes before. Now I’m on insulin injection once a day, victoza once a day, metformin, gliclizide. I have a damaged pancreas and my spleen doesn’t work as it should. All because of sepsis after bumping my nuts at work. My testicle dissolved inside me and poisoned my body. I’m married with 3 kids and I’m struggling with blood sugars going up and down. I keep burping sulphur burps and it’s getting me down. I actually wake up my other half with the smell and I feel so down with it all. I eat a balanced diet and am really careful as to what I eat. Can anyone give any advice as to why this is happening and what I could possibly do about it ? It’s really affecting my life. Thanks

Ouch!

Which Metformin type are you on? This gives lots of people gastric issues from everything I've read on here. The slow release version is somewhat better apparently - but worth talking to your GP about? Some of the lovely folk on here will soon respond who know what they are talking about, and we have some 3c types here too!

I agree you need to phone the doctor up and ask some advice and if you need to change your tablets are there are other tablets you can take

Hi Russ, welcome to the forum.

So sorry to hear about your current situation. As you have coexisting health issues it’s best to check with your GP as it could be a number of things.

Hopefully it will just be a medication adjustment but your GP will be best placed to assess your situation as a whole.

Hi @Russbuster Sorry to hear about your problems. It must be very wearing for you. You mentioned damage to your pancreas. Could the sulphur burps be due to a digestive issue relating to that? I’d ask if that was a possibility. Perhaps your digestion needs some support.

Sorry to hear how tough you are finding things @Russbuster :(

Do you need to take Creon and/or omeprazole as a result of the damage to your pancreas?

It certainly sounds like you need some specialist support. Have you asked your Dr about your sulphur burps?

Hi Russ,

I can't offer anything more than what the others have said but just wanted to reach out anyway.

Health problems, regardless of what they are can be really hard to cope with especially at the onset when we have to suddenly learn how to manage them and also to cope with the mental mountain that can come with it.

I'd definitely second talking to health care professionals. If you're not hearing the answers you need or the support required you need to keep asking - this is what they're there for.

Could you try doing some deep breathing techniques to help when you're feeling down? I know it can sound a bit wishy washy and itsnt a cure but when I was diagnosed with a particularly painful condition a few years ago that devastated me, the only thing that helped me through it was forcing myself to get out of my brain and to take really deep breaths.

Either way, please know you will be okay. You will figure this out and it will get easier with time. Hang on in there.
