Hi all,
Has anyone else had problems getting an appointment with the DN(diabetes nurse) ?
I was newly diagnosed back in Feb on a reading of 7.4-7.2
I refused medication wanting to try diet and fitness first.
My DN gave me paperwork for follow up appointment blood works for beginning of may. Then rebook with her to discuss results and any questions etc.
So this I did. Tried to book the appointment reception said No.
Tried explaining why I needed appointment (I have a major op in a week and wanted to discuss implications etc as I will be immobile for at least 4 wks) again reception said no because my current blood results are 6.2! Yay... however I still want to see DN nurse
End up speaking to 2 receptionist who say No as readings ok but to have a telephone conversation with a Dr.. . So spoke to doc only for them to say you need to speak to DN nurse! I can book a telephone conversation!
Ok I have to ring reception to book.
Guess what... Yep reception says No
Grrrr
Any suggestions other than stuffing carbs and going for another blood test to get an audience with the DN!!

Sounds very frustrating for you @Tracy Cousins :(

Any chance of changing surgeries?

Hope you manage to get an appointment to put your mind at rest soon. Hope the op goes well.

The only suggestions I have could upset the receptionists. Perhaps do a letter with any questions you have, concerns over the operation etc. Address it specifically to the nurse and drop it off at the practice. Thus kind of bipassing the receptionists.

Tracy I think you need to put this in writing expressing your overall disappointment about how you have been treated...as suggested address it to the practice manager...with a copy for your GP...then we can all be clear about who said what to whom...that's a disgraceful way to treat a patient...you really need to do that as soon as you can to maintain some impetus...good luck...don't take no for an answer.

Have been thinking of changing doctors but my one is merging with a better practice so thinking I would wait and see what it's like after merge.
Your advice on writing to the surgery practice manager etc is something I will do tonight and post through their door on my way to work tomorrow.
Thanks for advice .

Definitely complain - if the receptionist is blocking you from doing what your doctor instructs then there should be consequences.
Way back when my youngest was ill I went into the surgery and asked to see a doctor - the receptionist told me that it would all prove to be a waste of time, so when the doctor told me that my child was seriously ill - as though I did not know that, I repeated what the receptionist had told me - and added that I was only there as I had not take her advice to go home and not bother the doctor. I did not see that particular receptionist on the desk again, and I think that your own particular dragon could also do with being reported.
