I am starting to notice a pattern in my hypos, which seams strange.

After having highs above 10.0 with the highest being just over 16.0, I then end up with a hypo around midnight. I though initially it was me over compensating with the evening meal.

Even when I don't compensate and have a normal tea, I go low to varying degrees, usually just under 4.0. Yesterday I was 10.3 @ 4:30 pm had tea around 7 pm 3 slices of wholemeal bread (normally have 2) grilled streaky bacon (surplus fat mopped off). by 9:30 down to 6.5, which would normally be ok.

At 11:30 pm was feeling a bit funny, got engrossed in setting up new phone, and checked I was 3.2, 25 mins later after jelly babies was 5.2. I was going to check to see if I over did the jelly babies, but fell asleep. I assume I got it about right as I was 4.2 this morning.

Just checked 2 hours after breakfast (3 slices wholemeal toast) I am 7.4, which is where I am happy to be.

In response to a question on the waking thread I have just checked the number of hypos I have had since May. In July I had 11 hypos and that's including the 3.9 ones. If I take what I spotted somewhere on the Abbott web site and what they classed as having a hypo ie below 3.5, I have had 3 hypos. Checked June as well, I had a total of 3 hypos, under 4.0 During May I only had 1 hypo .

Having relooked over the past 3 months I am wondering if its all down to the heat.

Meds 2 x 500 mg twice a day, and 160 mg of gliclazide in the morning.

Hi pav.......you might be right with the whole heat issue, is there any change in your diet? exercise etc?....as I said you seem to either have a hypo or be very close to one from your posts.
You seem borderline a lot,

You seem borderline a lot,

Nothings changed for the past 3 months, since getting back on track. Trying to keep within the Nice guide lines as a starting point, but would like to be a bit tighter than the 8.5 upper limit.

Hopefully the attached shows, the last 3 months results.

You have done so well and admire your dedication to your diabetes......I personally think your attitude is spot on 🙂

Thanks for the vote of confidence :D.

Before the new year, I would of said the opposite, unfortunately I have accidently deleted my pre new year results and no longer have the meters to re-download them again. Which ended up as being disgustingly high and gave me the kick up the backside I needed.

You have done well!.....give ya self a good pat on the back from me :D

Need to work on the spikes, some are my stupid own fault, falling for the tempting white bread goodies :(. Other spikes I have no explanation for, could eat the same one day and the next time I would spike.

A very few are where I thought I needed a snack (the learning curve again) and totally got it wrong.

What I don't want to happen is get my numbers within limits, then loose hypo awareness. Thankfully all my hypos have given me warning signs, though some I did not suss out straight away, until I thought better test as things don't seam right. So now I test at any time I feel different which works and can add the feeling to the register of notifications that I am starting to go low.

On the other hand, I don't want to get readings in the teens and above, as that's when I get the tingling sensation in my feet to start with.

You have to be too low for quite a while - like if I let myself run at 4.5 all the while or something? - to lose your hypo symptoms and when they say 'you have to run it higher for a bit' what they'd mean by higher, would be 'about 7' LOL

Occasional hypos don't class as too lo for quite a while. Not unless they last for hours and hours and hours at a time.

It is probably the heat, like I have to reduce my insulin, you may need to turn your Gliclazide down! Do you take 2 tabs? Could you cut one in half?

OR if it is hot, have an extra half slice of carbohydrate.

Was thinking of dropping the gliclazide down to 1 1/2 tablets (120 mg) just being cautious as the highs could end up higher. If there's no change today as its cooler, will try the reduced gliclazide for a few days to see what happens.

I have only had one hypo that was a bitch to recover from and that was not even a low hypo, just as fast as I got my level up it started dropping again. All others have responded well to the jelly baby type treatment and back to normal in about 1/2 hour ish.

I've had a few of those 'roller-coaster' hypos :(

Think that link sums up hypos well, 🙂 there seams to be no such thing as a standard hypo. 😱

Does not seam like 6 months since I started regaining control either.

This diabetes is a funny thing, had a tea I have had before which would normally give me numbers in the 7.0's or less 2 hours after. Last night 2 hours later its 10.3 :( then a further 1 1/2 hours later its back to 5.8 (bed time).

Yes, it's weird isn't it, and can be very annoying at times! In a bid to refresh my control I'm keeping the food very simple this week and having exactly the same to eat each night. I will probably make slight adjustments based on each previous night's readings to try and iron things out, but you can bet your bottom dollar it will throw a wobbly at some point! 🙄

Now the weathers cooler, my BS is hitting the teens on a couple of occasions instead of going low 😱 :(

Yes, my numbers are running a bit higher too I've noticed. I had relaxed my rather strict low GI diet a bit in an attempt to keep my BGs up, now I'm going back to normal to bring them down again. I've had to increase my insulin again too.
