thanks northerner I am a little concerned that my health team are encouraging people to stop testing and rely on the 6 month test to control sugar levels I wander if anybody out there have come across this
it seems rather short sited when you consider that 3.9 million people have db or is this a sign that they no longer have
the resources' to control this disease

That's is ridiculous...I am relatively new to diabetes...shook me at first...getting to grips with it slowly...learnt so much from this forum and the advice to test...test...test... was the best advice I could have been given...despite my GP firmly advising no need to test...just have regular blood tests at the surgery...suspect its all about the money...worried we may ask them to prescribe testing strips...or ask for a meter...bought my own...and pay for all prescriptions...outrageous...I will keep testing...

It is common practice to not encourage Type 2 Diabetics to test. Even if they are prescribed test strips they are often limited.

The meters are not usually a problem as companies often give them free or reasonable price, they make there money on the test strips!

I think it is very short sighted. When people see what food is doing to their blood sugar it makes them more aware and therefore more in control. Also, unless people are aware of what carbs are and what they can do, they will be living in complete ignorance thinking they are eating so healthy their blood sugars must be improving. They will go to a pub and avoid the alcohol and sugary drinks and drinkfresh orange juice all evening.

TBPH I think those who decide not to provide us with the very equipment and correct advise to help us improve our control and go a long long way in reducing complications are as thick as two short planks ,that's the polite version of what I really think.

I've been discouraged from doing any testing at all to start off with. In fact I've been discouraged from managing my diabetes in anyway what-so-ever.
My area goes for complete patient exclusion.

I agree with Ljc. You would think that anything we can do to help ourselves and ease our reliance on the health system and welfare etc including ongoing future problems, would be welcome but maybe I am coming at this from the wrong angle. Or is it just me??? Anyway I am nosy and like to know what's going on so will keep testing and asking questions
