I decided that, after a few days back on 1 unit of lantus, I would try without it again last night. I was 4.7 before bed, woke in the night (3:15am) and tested - 4.6. I woke to 4.7 this morning! 🙂 Will see how things go through the day, but it's looking good! 🙂

4.7 a number only in my dreams!

Well done on your result 🙂

excellent - im going the opposite way needing lantus - again. Started off on a couple now on 6- woke to 6.6, might need more

It's not straightforward is it? I often think that Joe Public thinks the injections must be the worst thing about diabetes, but the really difficult thing is working out what you need to inject and then hoping you got it right, which leaves you with a constant, if subconscious, concern and tension. I guess for you it may be the honeymoon period, nearly a year after diagnosis, but I reach 4 years at the end of this month. Thankfully, I'm also die my review at the end of the month, so perhaps my consultant has some thoughts on my situation 🙂

Fingers crossed Alan x

Brilliant, amazing how stable your levels were. 🙂

Jeeeeeez, I don't even take basal but only get those kinda numbers when I drink! Bloody DP! Guessing you don't suffer with that? I don't really know what I can do for it to be honest.

Guessing your over that cold or whatever illness :D Well done!

I need a lot more novorapid in the mornings to cover the DP-type rise in levels and my breakfast - this morning was 7 units to cover one slice of Burgen toast and three mugs of tea. The rest of the day I need far less - maybe only 8-10 units for a full meal with pudding in the evenings!

Yes, I'm over the cold and back out running regularly, which is what prompted me to try again. I still hesitated last night though over whether to take the injection or not. As I was 4.7 before bed I thought, 'well, if I rise it's not going to be enormous and I'm only missing one unit, so give it a go!' So it was a pleasant surprise to see how rock-solid I'd been through the night 🙂

Went to bed on 5.4 last night, was 5.2 at 3 am, and 5.0 this morning, so it looks like I'm still OK without it 🙂

i find that when i am really active my basal demands go down over time.... reckon its because you are so active? anyway gotta be good to drop an injection even if it is only for a while

Yes, it's definitely related to activity levels, with a little help from my pancreas as well. I've actually struggled to keep levels up over the past few days because although I've been reducing my novorapid, I haven't been reducing it enough. I suppose that the reduction in NR shows that I'm not compensating for the lack of lantus with extra NR 🙂

The key is that there are plenty of equally active T1s who still need basal, so it has to indicate that you're producing enough.

I am really intrigued to see what your consultant makes of it. Whether it's seen as a resistance decrease or production increase. Or both. 🙂

Perhaps if you are brave enough you should have a go at gardening (if the rain ever stops). That will be a real test for you.

I've been doing a bit of gardening this week Linda, and sure enough I've been having hypos and near-hypos every day, even though I've cut my novorapid right back with my meals! Too wet today to do any, but have been steady all day today - woke at 5.0, 5.0 before lunch and just tested at 4.7 🙂

5.7 last night and 5.2 this morning - didn't test in the night as I'm feeling confident now that my levels will be fine 🙂

Really interesting stuff. I really wish your consultant would say "OK" to a c-peptide test! Tell him it's important for this forum to know :D

I would love one day to need no lantus, cos it stings like a ***** sometimes! 😛
