Still struggling knowing what my ratio is after over four years

Does your ratio change depending how many carbs you eat?? I havnt really found anything online about that tbh

My first meal.of the day ratio ( usually 12pm) I guess is about 6.5

Then afterwards say if I want 145g sweet carbs ..I guess the ratio is 10 ...and I do 100% of it in one go..Then an.extta say 1/4 2 or 3 hours later ...just guessing really

Am I doing it correctly???

I don't like it.

I am very cautious as months and years ago I had blood sugar that would very slowly come down then I would very unhappily have to eat something then try to go to sleep. I couldn't go to bed if it was say 7 or even 8..too low!

Yes I am having growing pains in my fingers I'm.guessing due to horrible neuropathy

I'm also not a fan.of typing...it's such hard work. This took an awful lot of effott)

Sorry you are finding it tricky to feel confident about your doses @Upset Racoon

I think many of us are familiar with that frustration. Not helped because insulin needs can fluctuate during the year, so no sooner have you “got it sorted” but things can shift and change and need tweaking again :(

Generally it’s advised to get your basal insulin dose adjusted to be as right as it can be first, so that you are working from a solid base.

Your basal insulin should just be keeping your BG levels steady (within + or - 1.7mmol/L) any time you aren’t eating, and don’t have any meal insulin acting. So for example, overnight, or if you were to skip a meal.

There’s a write-up of how to check your basal insulin dose(s) here:

Then you can move on to adjusting your meal ratios. You may have different ratios at different times of the day. And yes some people find that for significantly larger meals than ‘normal for you’, they need a different ratio.

Hope you are able to make some positive progress.

Have you ever been on as Structured Education course? Something like DAFNE or a local equivalent might really help you?
