hi all, I was diagnosed on Wednesday. First appointment this Wednesday with the nurse. The reason I initially went to my GP was because I thought I was anaemic again and displaying the symptoms I usually have when anaemia starts. Is it daft to ask when will the tiredness and lack of energy go away. i worry that if they decide my diabetes should be controlled via diet how long before I feel better and all this tiredness and no energy goes away? I can't stand going out and not getting far cos I don't have the energy to get there. :(

Remember that it took a long time for you to develop D, and it takes a while before you can get your BG completely under control, and consequently your symptoms. One step at a time, fix what you can when you can. You've already joined this forum, which can offer help and advice from real diabetics. The one thing we can't offer, I'm afraid, is a magic wand or a quick fix. Good luck on Weds.

Thanks LeeLee just so fed up feeling tired all the time. I went out with my husband today. We took a taxi there and taxi back. We were out less than an hour. We were only back about an hour and I was so tired with it all I was sitting snoozing in my chair. Some days I get home from work, have dinner and then sit drowsing for hours. I just would love to be able to do hings without coming home exhausted or be able to go out without having to stop for a rest or look for somewhere to sit cos I have no energy left.

Hi 'cat'. I'm new on the site but if I can tell you my experience when first diagnosed it may help. It was 6 weeks from diagnosis to actually seeing the diabetic consultant at the hospital and getting the insulin I needed. In that time I went from 8 stone to 6 stone 4 and couldn't climb a flight of stairs being too tired. Disastrous as a decorator. I couldn't work the last couple of weeks. I was actually due to wait another 2 weeks for my appointment but my late husband phoned the hospital and threatened to take me to casualty and leave me there if they wouldn't see me sooner, so they did. Well, no sooner than I was put on insulin and my levels came down, I was back working and the weight went back on in less than a month. Recovery was dramatically quick for me thank goodness. Good luck and I hope things improve
