Hi,

If I don't take these before bed is that bad? (ie taken early evening)
If I try to remember before bed I fall asleep at times!!

Know I need to do better but I wondered if there was an impact?

Regards,
Debbie

hi and Welcome . Which statins are you on. I'm on Atorvastatin and the included leaflet says it can be taken at anytime of the day but should be taken at the same time each day. However when I'm in hospital they insist it should be at night.

My Dad is on Simavastin , according to the leaflet, it should be taken at night

Hi and welcome.
I was told to take them before i go to bed, so as a routine i get a class of water and take the tablet before going up stairs.

Welcome - I am on Atorvastatin and I was told to take them at night by the pharmacist.

Welcome, zebrazebra (great name!). I take Atorvastatin last thing at night - they are near my toothbrush in the bathroom so I don't easily forget 🙂

OH is on Atorvastatin, and has always taken then in the morning, with all his other meds, to get them out of the way. As Ljc says, the leaflet says any time, but when OH was seeing the doctor once, he said he was surprised he wasn't taking them in the evening - but didn't tell him to stop taking them in the morning. I think the theory is that your body produces most cholesterol overnight, so they might be more effective taken in the evening, but I suppose it may depend on the brand you're taking and how they're formulated.

Thanks Robin. I take mine after my dinner along with a couple of other meds

🙂It is Simvastatin, I think I will try to put them near my toothbrush for last thing at night. Haven't tried that yet! Aren't I dreadful it's only a tablet before bed - I feel like I regressing in to a teenager!🙄
Thank you everyone for responding, much appreciated

My OH and I are both on the same statin. I was told to take it in the evening, as it is over night that the cholesterol is laid down. OH was told to take it any time by another doctor at the same Practice. I have stuck with my instruction, he takes his in the morning. No idea what the right answer is, I just can't be bothered with changing the filling of the meds box for the week.

I just include my simvastatin with my other nighttime medications before I go to bed, while the dog looks impatient to go out for his goodnight wee.

I was on simvastatin and took it in the morning, but my GP changed me to atorvastatin last July and said just to take it in the morning with my other meds. Makes life a bit simpler 😉
