Well done Sue!

Can I ask what you all mean by a Meds review? I can't imagine they would stop me and ask me for a review of K's medication as surely only the doctor could do that? But would have thought that was the case for everyone?

Just wondered as I like to be prepared ( I will practice my Padington Hard Stare- any tips Sue:D)

It's precisely that. The pharmacist goes through all the medication and asks questions about when you should take it and anything you need to avoid whilst taking it etc. Pharmacists are generally much better informed about potential interactions between medications than GPs and the review ensures that you know how to take the medications most effectively and safely. I had a review about 3 years ago when I was on 11 different medications plus two insulins! 😱

You would have got a cheer from me Sue ! WEll done & keep at em ! 😎

The Dept of Health defines a medication review as ..'A structured, critical examination of a patient's medicines with the objective of reaching an agreement with the patient about treatment, optimising the impact of medicines, minimising the number of medication-related problems and reducing waste'

Basically you sit down with the Pharmacist and run through all the prescribed meds on your scrip, doses, problems etc. If you get your prescriptions from the same Pharmacy all the time is advantageous to all concerned. And if offered one ( at a convenient time 😉) you should take it.

Yep and agree they are very useful, I had one last year and found it helpful.
It was just the fact I had said no as running out of time and needed to be else where.

I gleefully passed on the pharmacists comments to my consultant this morning:D

I'm just back from picking up my prescription from the pharmacy, and all I got from the pharmacist was 'Have you taken this medication before?' To which I answered yes and was on my way.

It must have been your 'don't even think about it' face! :D

update :D

Same pharmacist as last time not a word mentioned about a review, prescription handed over without comment, all done with bad grace I might add though.

I saw my GP earlier today and told him what had happened. GP says that the pharmacists are paid a bonus for each patient they review hence the try on with me. He also said the same as everyone else on here that my no should have been respected. Made laugh as well as he is going to write to the company concerned and point out that he did not apriciate his patient being told that he her GP knew nothing about prescribing. (glad his spelling better than mine lol)

Haha! Thanks for the update Sue! You've also just reminded me I need to collect my prescription this afternoon 🙂

I'm also off to the chemist shortly for a 2nd attempt at getting my needles. Doctor's missed them off the script so I'm going back. Hoping he'll offer to review my meds for me just so I can say no. :D

Can I come too? :D

Hadn't realised they got paid for this!

They were very busy this time last year when they first asked me; I said I'd come back after Christmas & have 1. I didn't bother as I can read labels & my meds very straight forward.

However, I had a review a couple of weeks ago; very nice; deleted stuff I hadn't had for years; advised about alcohol consumption as Christmas Ball last Tuesday. No good in the end was on antibiotics for gum infection so no alcohol anyway.

I also told her I had requested a free BG meter from the link supplied by Northerner when I first joined(thankyou it arrived in a couple of days). I explained after Christmas I wanted to self-test before/after meals for my own info as I only have the HBAIc test for suger levels every 6 months; I do quite a bit of exercise & as metformin dose now halved to 2 x 500g per day I want to make sure what I think is healthy food is; so levels don't creep up. She was more than happy to show me how to use the meter.

Will she be paid for that as well or was she just being nice?

You got a good one! 🙂

Just been to pick up my 'holiday' supplies - no needles :( Back on Monday...!

😱 Are they trying to ration them do you think ? 🙄

Rob

Can I come too? :D

I got my needles at last without problems, but I've got to order test strips on Monday so I don't run out over christmas/new year. I'm just starting my 3rd box of the 4 I get, so they may well moan before they sign the script but I'll kick up a stink if they do.

Robster

Just mention you know pumper_sue & they'll be quaking in their boots.

Glory every one putting their prescriptions in I have put one in. Tried to do online but the system my practice use was down. Had to call it through, but receiption person was in a rush so hope I've ordered all I need. But have been given Xceed blood strips for Ketones but another meter to carry.

I'm just waiting to use that line about not being willing to inject without test strips. Most of them have no grasp of what the supplies represent to us. They're not like paracetomol or BP tablets. We can't just make do without for a couple of days while they sort things out. And then moan if we dare to want to build up a slight surplus in case of times like this.

Rob

It's the same box being leant and paid back. At some point, the bubble will burst and the needle crunch will hit. Then the person with 'the' box will do a runner to the maldives and we'll have to use hollowed out twigs ! :D
