Need a bit of advice.

I attend Chelsea matches on a regular basis and on Wednesday it will be the first time going to a night game since diagnosis. Before diagnosis I would head to a McDonalds, KFC, chippy or grab a burger from a burger van outside the stadium. I don't have time to head home after work and eat something proper. I don't have this problem with weekend matches because i'll eat before I leave the house.

Does any one else experience a similar situation? When the only option is fast food. I've no idea what to go for/have.

The burger and fries probably aren't too bad as an occasional meal, but the burger buns are probably going to have the worst effect on blood sugar levels, since they are white flour/practically pure glucose 😱! So, you might want to ditch the bun! 🙂

If you were going to the Emirates they would cater for diabetics 😉

Ha, i'd never buy in the stadium anyway, far too expensive!

At a guess, or fact, how many carbs would you say are in the buns? I'm still on my fixed doses until I meet my consultant later this month, so need to have a certain amount of carbs.

I'd say have what you fancy, estimate the carbohydrate content and inject accordingly.

Just taken that approach when away to work 1pm to 9.30pm on an afternoon 5km then evening 10km trail run with obstacles among forest trees. For each race, I staffed the cargo net then rope webs, 500m from start to first obstacle, 1km bike ride between, then 600m back to finish. Each bike ride involving a bit of "hike a bike" carrying bike when brambles make riding impossible. Smell of burgers proved too tempting, so I had one between races. Also set up some tape & signs to mark trail and bins to collect water bottles.

Had a beer from bar tent before returning to my tent to sleep. Next morning, woken at first light by birds singing in trees. So, first breakfast of coffee, oatcakes and cheese. Headed off to take photos, with final aim of a geocache about 2km away, outside forest. Spotted loads of squirrels, then bonus of a herd of deer crossing the forest road. Back at visitors centre, cafe was too tempting, so had a late cooked breakfast, just before they stopped serving at 1130 - early dinner before driving home. In this case, I always wait until food appears before injecting, in case it doesn't appear and to judge carbohydrate content by seeing size of baked beans portion, thickness of toast slices etc.

Felt I'd earned the junk food after an energetic couple of days. 🙂
