Does anybody know what to with surplus insulin? I have recently stopped taking insulartard and have unopened boxes in my fridge. They are still in date, so it would be wasteful to take them back to the chemist.

that is the best thing to do with them as they will be able to dispose of them properly for you.

I've done this before when we had insulin left over. Novomix etc...when Rose changed over to MDI

Returning them to the chemist is the best option.

Definitely send them to IDDT, I almost wish I had some spare myself so I could send it! To think that something we practically (not completely!) take for granted is unavailable to people in some parts of the world is a complete scandal. The chemist will just chuck it away as they can't be sure how it's been kept (same with unopened tablets apparently).

I'd always wondered how people could have 'spare, in date insulin' (which is what they ask for). Doh! Now I know - it's when you change insulin or regimes!🙂

As the chemist will send the insulin for destruction, I'd go as far as saying it's verging on immoral to do anything other than send to IDDT for use by someone else.

thats a great link, I just clicked on it and they take all sorts of unwanted stuff. I have old boxes of needles etc when i changed needle size so I will send those off too.
