Morning all.

Haven't posted much recently, although do have a nosey regularly as to what everyone is up to.

I seem to be struggling with my D, not sure if I have just got fed up of it now. I am putting weight on, seem to be constantly hungry (although trying to make healthy choices), am eating things I shouldnt be even though I know I shouldnt, I am fed up of sticking needles in my tum, fed up of taking tablets, can't get my head in gear after my hols in the summer - when i was skipping my injections altogether.

My waking levels vary from 8 up to 13 (here we go again), and my daytime levels are never particularly great. Usually manage decent BG levels if I skip food - but then I'm starving and eat anything in sight.

I'm working long hours (7.15am - 6pm) and am tired all the time, waking in the night to drink, and use the loo - although levels not massively high in the night - again 8-13. Not sure if some of the other meds are perhaps causing this.

My review is due at the end of this month - I'm dreading seeing the nurse as I know its my fault I've put weight on, I just can't seem to control my hunger! Sorry for a moan and hope you are all ok xxx

Although the ideal is between 4 & 7 8 is not massively high.

We all gt times when we get fed up and want the whole thing to go away. How much support do you get from your diabetes team or doctor? Perhaps they can help you?

Not sure what else to suggest, someone else is sure to be along soon with some good ideas. I hope you feel better soon.

I don't have any words of wisdom but just wanted you to know you're not alone. You and I could be the same person, we work the same hours, and it sounds like we're going through the same thing right now.

I'm due my review in a few weeks and am scared I'm going to be told off as I have been dreadful at looking after myself. Don't you find that the more tired you get the worse your control is and then you get even more tired and the vicious circle continues?

I hope you find your way out of this low point soon, you know how to be 'good', its just a case of being good more often than being bad!

Emma, don't fear your review, it is clear that life is making things difficult for you and it is your nurse's challenge to try and find ways you can improve things in the face of the problems you face. You may need a review of your meds or other suggestions might be made, so see it as an opportunity to move forward. We are here to help if you need us! 🙂

Well, still not had my review as the invite didnt arrive till recently. I had my blood taken a couple of weeks ago for the regular tests, but haven't received the results as yet. The review with the nurse is going to take place by phone as they had no appointments.

However, in a separate appointment with the nurse for something else, I have lost a couple of pounds since my hols so that made me feel a little better.

I am back to medication every day, including the insulin every time i am supposed to take it. Disappointingly, it isnt making much difference to my levels but I guess that will take time to get the levels right. I think I was getting fed up as my numbers haven't dropped as I wanted them to.

I am thinking about asking the nurse about the possibility of attending the Xpert course for insulin users. I know on the basic Xpert i attended, (pre-insulin) they talked about it being more indepth - so hopefully they could help me understand how much rapid insulin to take based on particular meals etc. Has anyone attended the Xpert for insulin and did they benefit?

Does anyone know if i would be able to attend as i'm only a type 2?

Thanks

Hi Emma,

I don't have an answer to your last question there but do want to say I am going through a difficult patch at present so identify with you and Vix. I am on tablets and although I take them as prescribed, the food, weight and issue has rocketed and BG checks and exercise has ceased as I have thrown myself into my work and forgotten about me.
I have my check next week, dreading it but I know things need to change but as my therapist said " DO I WANT THEM TO"
Pardon the expression but I guess it is food for thought.

Good Luck and keep posting hun x

Results arrived by post this morning....

HbA1C is 77 which i believe is 9% :(

According to my meter, my estimated one was 7.5%, although i do tend to test pre-food so I guess the result was rather "one sided".

I dont know what the practice diabetes nurse will say when she rings - but i am going to ask about the Xpert for Insulin course. 6 months of high levels is enough now, and its time to sort this thing out!! If she says no to the course and can't suggest anything which might help, I'm going to ask to see the DSN again - she was the one who added the insulin to my meds, so perhaps will help more. What i am not going to be is fobbed off! 🙂
