OK so I'm getting used to taking bloods now and mastered the technique but I bruise everytime. I've turned my machine to 1 which is the lowest its helped but I'm still bruised. Given I sometimes need to do 4 readings a day I'm really struggling. I swap fingers so there having a bit of a rest but the brusing is staying for a week. I'm very petite and have childlike hands so not sure if this is why. Is there anything that can help?

Hi @Sophie84 - you can get bruising from finger prick testing - the key is to alternate and change your fingers and try to avoid the pads and not too close to the nail - I've changed my lancing device to an Accu-Chek FastClix device and found it better than the standard ones (doesn't hurt as much in my experience) - some tips can be found here:

Thank you. Had a read of the tips and I'm doing all that. So I'll see if a different lancing device helps

My stabber is very gentle and if I push the lancets in too firmly even 7 will not draw blood - you might find a different device will be the solution to the problem.

I’m a fan of Accu-Chek finger pickers. I very rarely use anything else. I think the current version is the ‘Fast Clix’ but I’ve been through various different ones in my time. Their depth setting is very tweakable, and I really like the cartridge of 6 lancets, so i can always switch to a fresh one if the one I’ve been re-using gets a bit ouchy.
