Hi folk just back from the Doc's HbA1c result was 62 or 7.8% (not sure of the calculation) I know it's not great but in December I was 10.5% , so I go back again in 6 weeks for another go.

I also found out while I was there that they have prescribed me the wrong Metformin I take 2 x 1000mg slow release, as the chemist was out of stock of 1000mg I had to get a new one for 500mg as they had these in stock, another Dr prescribed normal release, lucky I noticed when I saw them. I told my doc They didn't have the sr on the pack and could she check. How come they don't check these things.Arrrgggg

Good work on the hba1c that's a really nice reduction 🙂

My lot are the same, they prescribed the Tresiba 200 instead of the 100, all the same thing just more insulin in less carrier, except only delivers in 2 unit increments, which foxed my brain slightly cos I need 5 currently. Took me a good ten minutes to get my head round that one . Glad you spotted it!

I have had the wrong insulin given to me before now. The mind boggles.

Well done on the hba1c.

Someone I'm having to learn, don't knock yourself as you celebrate. Your hba1c is part of your journey and is good for where you are in your journey. I was thrilled wkth my 9.7% about a year and a half ago because it was the first time I got out of double figures for hba1c (I've alwahs struggled controlling my sugars). Recently I had an hba1c of 8.4%. Believe me when I say I'm thrilled with my lowest yet.

So you don't need to add 'I know it's not great...' because the important thing is where you are in your journey 😉

Yeah thanks for that, maybe I should have said that to my doc, she was still telling me I need to be under 7% but I was just so happy to be where I am considering where I came from. I celebrated with an extra 25g of brasil nuts. Been smiling all not tho

Well done on lowering your a1c 🙂 I agree with Amberzak, don't put yourself down. You've clearly been working hard and it's paid off 🙂

Thanks Rosie, its just my mentality i'm a bit ocd I've been a sportsman all my days and see everything as winning or losing, I know I should look a things regarding my body and mind differently now I'm older but in years gone by it was just a case of work and train harder and I achieved, now its not all in my control. See I've said it I'm a control freak.

Going in the right direction is winning, whether HbA1c or most sports - especially orienteering!

They speak the truth, a win is a win, and actually when you think about it, it's more of a win because your opponent has a natural advantage. That pancreas is sitting there all warm and cozy, all the other organs telling it what to do and cleaning up after it, you on he other hand have to whip out your crystal ball and try and work out what it wants and why it's got a pet lip today when it was perfectly happy yesterday, and if squinting your eye or holding your pen in a particular way will help 😉. Doctors are very strange creatures, very black and white which doesn't always help, in their world you just take the right pill and everything just miraculously happens, most haven't got a clue how hard you have to work to get that type of reduction. So dwell on the glory of your achievement for a while, give yourself a huge pat on the back and then muster your inner control freak and show that doctor what you're made of :D......did I mention I am a card carrying member of the control freak brigads?

Nice work, Alan!:D That's a brilliant result! You've obviously been working hard.🙂

Like you Alan i came from serious competitive sport and I felt that everything should be controllable. diabetes put paid to that as even with the best plans and some nice patterns in results things would then just go wrong.

One of the best things I remember from my first lovely DSN in response to my frustrations with my management was 'you are not a robot'. I have to remind myself of that now and then (quite often actually).

Well done on improving your HBA1C 🙂

Great reduction there.

Thanks for all your kind words of support folk. I know I wouldn't have got this far without the support and advice I've had from this forum.
Off to Nursery now my grandsons Easter bonnet parade, more reasons to smile.
Thanks Al.

Well done - from another control freak (most of us on here are, I think:D)

If you weren't a control freak before diagnosis, you will be after a few years with the diabeastie!🙄

Well done.:D

Also, just to prewarn you, if your doctors are abything like mine, your doctors will always say you can get better. I got the lowest hba1c ever a few months back (just had another check on Tuesday) and they said 'well done, but you can still get it lower'. My friend was told 'your hba1c is too low.' So...yeah...diabetes sucks 😉
