So I posted on the newbie board a couple of weeks ago and had a good response so I'm back for some advice.
Two weeks ago I was diagnosed as a T2 with a FBG of 14.1 and an HbA1c of 100. (I had been eating masive amounts of rubbish for a variety of reasons). I know it was a bit scary. However to cut a long story short I had to get the second test done fully 3 days later and I had already started to change to low carb diet and exercise. I got the result back today from that and it was 94. Since I was diagnosed I have hit the LCHF diet head on and have increased my exercise significantly to around 2 hours walking and 50 lengths a day swimming. I can't keep all that time up but this week will manage at least an hours walk and 50 lengths each day. But here is the thing. I bought a monitor and already my morning levels in the last couple of days have been 5.3 and 5.8 (I didn't test for a week as I was a way). At night they are similar if not slightly lower. I have also lost 7lbs in the last 2 weeks and I have to say I feel really good for it. Anyway went to the nurse today and she wanted to put me on Metformin given my initial readings of HbA1c and the second set taken 3 days later. She wants to put me on a slow release version on a low doseage. I've managed to hold her off but she wants me to take a further HbA1c in 8 weeks time but has already stated she is likely to put me on the drug because in the long run she feels it would be better for me. I am trying to avoid the drug but I would welcome some opinions on this and whether I am just trying to avoid the inevitable? Am I really just making too big a deal about going on this drug?

It's up to you to decide or not, and there are a few downsides to Metformin, mostly to do with tummy problems!

However, a few upsides to consider
1. If you still have weight to lose - it can be helpful
2. It's considered to be cardio-protective
3. You will get free prescriptions

Congratulations for taking the bull by the horn.....
Your BG levels are looking great but the A1c test will give an overall picture as it's a measure of average BG levels over the last 3 months (surprised that you got such a reduction in 3 days). after 8 weeks I would expect that you will see much better numbers. As for the metformin, it's your choice, if you can go into the appointment armed with your FBG readings & a favorable A1c result it will weaken her case.

I refused Metformin when I was diagnosed last September and my DN implied I’d suffer and not get anywhere without it. In six months I’ve got my hba1c down from 73 to 40. Others have equal and better results so try and resist unless there’s a good medical reason for it.
