Lol no they have just gone up market a bit and charge a fortune for the unit. 🙄

I have one, it was a pressie last year, love and use it loads to make my fizzy water and the diet orange is nice too Gail. The refills are quite expensive but costs me less than fizzy water would 😉

Heston Blumenthal put white wine in a soda stream and taste tested it on workers from the City, most couldn't tell the difference between that and champagne!!

I have contemplated getting one for a couple of years. Like you mention they charge a fortune and i'm not sure how often i will use it. So seeing this thread, makes me wonder about it again 🙂

Oh but Mrs Mad do you not think it would be fun?....I remember these as a kid and I loved them then!!!....the good old days!!! ooooo!!! how old am I ? lol

I remember just pushing on that button till the soda nearly exploded!!! I think there fairly cheap on e-bay! 🙂

Noooo, don't do it!!!!

We saw the Heston thing too, so hubby tried it. It made a real mess in the kitchen, because he fizzed it too much 😱😱

They are lovely flavours, but I agree they are far too expensive. Much cheaper to just make fizzy water and use squash for flavouring. But Fi doesn't use hers very often, so I'm not bothered about buying the proper flavours 🙂

Not that old obviousley if you were a kid ! I remember with my first wage ever I bought a soda stream 😱 I wish I still had it now as the thought of using wine in it sounds so tasty, ebay here I come :D

Oh i have no doubts it could be fun and very dangerous in my hands 😎 .... even more tempted to get one now 😛

I remember them as a kid but we never had one, not sure why? Maybe my parents knew i might cause mischief with it, who knows :D

I got my machine for £30 from Tesco in April 2010; it's great (like Gail I love the sugar-free cranberry and raspberry, and the "zero" cola), but I wouldn't buy into the system now (nor replace my machine if it breaks), due to machines costing £100 and up. 😱 They have got to be kidding at that price... 🙄

We used to have one and enjoyed it for a while but eventually got bored with it. It got harder to find anywhere that supplied the gas cylinders, and eventually one of the seals went; of course it wasn't the one that you can buy as a spare part and they told us that we basically needed a new machine. Ummm, why can't they supply all the seals as spares, they are only little rubber rings after all!

Oh and how can anyone make champagne with a soda stream, I thought that if you put anything other than water in it it is likely to explode all over your kitchen?! 😱

You can get the gas in argos these days, the exchange is £9.99 and one lasts me about a month. The main draw for me at the moment is the number of sugar free options they have. I'm not a massive fizzy pop drinker, so a 2 litre bottle goes flat before I can drink it, and all our local shops only sell diet coke/Pepsi max for some odd reason, fanta zero is an endangered species here, we must be serious sugar hounds 😱 We also can't buy sparkling mineral water except in the supermarkets so my sodastream is my favourite thing :D

you can get them from £40 upwards not from £100 and up
