Hi everyone, I'm new to this site so any advice is very welcome. I'm not sure if anyone else experiences discomfort in their feet/toes (particularly during the night). Is there any socks / equipment out there that helps alleviate discomfort? Thanks 🙂

Welcome @johnsg 🙂 What kind of discomfort are you feeling? Heat, tingling, pain? How is your diabetic control? Keeping your blood sugar in range can help if it’s neuropathy and connected to your diabetes.

I don’t know of any socks or similar, but I’m sure some other people will have suggestions for you.

Hi @johnsg, welcome to the forum.

Have you had a chance to chat with your GP about this? They may be able to advice on some options.

You could also call our helpline for some guidance on 0345 123 2399.

Welcome to the forum @johnsg

How long have you been living with diabetes?

If the discomfort in your legs is connected to changes to your nerves (neuropathy) it seems to be helpful to keep your blood glucose levels as stable and in range as you can.

There is some overview information on this page which may help

We have some members of the forum who live with nerve pain like @KARNAK and @Flower who may be able to share their experiences and tips?

Welcome to the forum @johnsg.

We really need to know what sort of discomfort you are encountering and how long you`ve had it?
If it is DPN (Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy) you will need to get a proper diagnosis (DX) and control
of your blood glucose level (BGL) is crucial, are you on any medication for your Diabetes and have
you a Glucose Meter to test your BGL?

Have you had your feet checked at the surgery by a Diabetic Nurse (DN) or by a NHS Podiatrist? I`m
afraid night time is usually worst so bed socks may help and never walk about without footwear on. I
wear bed socks and my feet have 3 blankets over them as because of the nerve damage the temperature
can drop dramatically over night making the situation worse.

Medication can be prescribed for relief but as in my case it only slightly relieves it the pain is 24/7 and
forever, most people with Diabetes suffer at some point but usually disappears after awhile thankfully.
Looking after your feet should become a daily routine, washed, patted dry and moisturised but not between
the toes due to risk of infection and as already stated do not walk around in bare feet.

Next step is to check your BGL`s regularly and get a proper DX from a Dr or HCP to confirm you may have
DPN and some medication for treatment, please stay in touch and keep us up to date on your condition.
