I occasionally use syringes when my sugars are too high, or the pump is low on insulin and it’s not convenient to change, or anything like that.

My syringes were getting a little blunt so I asked gp for 10 more.

I got a box of 100 🙂

So I fought for a year to get my original 10 and now I get 100. Feel like a druggie lol

Try changing the syringe more often Amberzak - if you want to keep decent absorption by your skin!

I don’t like reusing them, but it was such a hassle to get those first 10 I had that I didn’t know when I was going to get any more. Now I can just use them once. Yay.

I thought that after I replied, Amberzak! Very few pharmacies seem to stock em now, even Boots have looked at me like I had two heads one day when I was using the Combo ad the occasional syringe. I gave up when I had the Insight - and went onto pens - however as 'singles' they are obviously Flexpens - which I hate!

After nearly 5 years in the back of a drawer with 'assorted unused junk' that cost a lot so you don't sling it, or sentimental (eg 35mm camera, dad's old Zeiss binoculars in a leather case, weighing half a ton that sis and I bought him for his 65th) my previous Novopen 4s and their case were covered in mildew! And new Novopens ARE expensive, can't expect new ones, I cost enough already don't I? Plus a whole box of 3ml cartridges? Complete overkill, can't use 3ml cartidges to refill an Insight 1.4ml cartridge so have to be realistic - 4 of em would land up in the bin.

I've still got a few packets (of 10) of 0.5ml BD syringes. Although they have use by dates I'm not sure what can deteriorate on them. The last time I used syringes was in 2006 for my Ultratard basal before I switched to Levemir pens. It was always going to be my fall back position when Interrailing around Europe in the 90's or travelling in New Zealand to use one of the syringes with the Actrapid pen cartridge if my Novopen malfunctioned or I lost it. I don't like throwing these things away as you never know when you might need them. :D

The lubrication inside the needle dries up is what happens, and when it does you'll know, believe you me - like trying to pierce your skin with a rusty blunt nail. Depends on your pain threshold I expect! LOL

I realise that but the syringes are sealed to a certain extent with caps and tops on. When I used them I had plenty of use out of the same one before chucking away. Anyway, in the interests of science have just tried one and still found it as smooth as owt. Either that or as you say I've got a higher pain threshold. :D

Nevertheless - it still rankles with me to sling stuff, unused! I'm a right old meanie in some ways LOL
