Hi, Stupid question from a newbie!

Not been diagnosed yet but expecting it next weeks Doctors appointment. (I mentioned more in my newbie welcome post)

Here's the question! Are you guys slim?

The reason I ask is that I don't really know any diabetics other than my late father who was not so much slim but thin as a rake. In spite of the ?disability/illness? I don't know which... It must be a great to have good shape.

*I'm currently 100kg standing at 1903m tall. I do 'feel' overweight.

I am! 8 stone on the dot and about 5 foot (if I stretch, lol!)

I wasn't slim at diagnosis, but not shockingly overweight. I was 16 stone. I am now under 12 stone. I a 5' 10" tall. Even now I am just inside the 'normal' BMI reading though I am as skinny as a rake now.

Hello I was diagnosed type two in Feb this year and I am thin.. weigh nine stone now and weighed nine and a half when diagnosed.. BMI normal five four tall. Also walk loads eat healthy foods and go to the gym!

Have diabetes in my family.. four people now I know off.. the three that died were between 85 and 90 no heart attacks no strokes (and no statins) .. the lady still alive is in her 80's.

So I am just doing what I can with diet (cutting back carb portions) and not getting hung up on NHS bleating about eat loads of carbs blah blah no fat blah blah..basically everything in moderation and lots of exercise!

Now, that is what I call tall! 😱:D

Not particularly, although I weigh less now at diagnosis than I have for a lot of years.

I'm a type one. Traditionally type ones are supposed to be the slims ones apparently. I'm not and never have been (though I had lost a lot of weight just before diagnosis but still not slim, in fact people look at a photo on me then and say I looked healthy).

I'm a 6' tall guy, at DX I was 225lb (or so) now I'm averaging in at 165lb.... Skinny as a rake now...

Yes my wardrobe needs a bit of a revision.....

In general if you are slim and have high blood sugar then T1 is a possibility. This is especially true if you have suddenly started to lose weight unexpectedly like I did.

The downside of losing 1/4 of your body weight is the development of a bony ass.... Enter gel seat cushion as I work at a desk all day😱

I'm huge...always huge by comparison with everybody else, but everybody else is getting bigger and bigger. Sometimes I now feel normal! 🙂 Still want to be slim though.

Tell me about it! Even the relatively soft car seats feel uncomfortable after a while.

LOL.... I had to drive from California to Missouri in 3 days..... Man, I was so uncomfortable I couldn't take more than 2 hours driving without a break (part of that was related to lower back issues which I wasn't really aware of)....

I was about 85 kilos, roughly ten kilos overweight and just slightly pear shaped, for a few years before diagnosis. Sudden weight loss took me down to 75 kilos prior to being diagnosed. Once I started having treatment my weight went back up to 85 kilos but I got it back down to 75 kilos mainly by doing lots more exercise. The first half of this year I went down to 70 kilos while training for a major endurance event but I'm now back up to 75 which seems to be a normal weight for me. So I would say yes, presently I'm slim.

I was 9 stone 6 when diagnosed pre diabetic last year. Dropped the carbs and went down to 7 st 10. Not intentionally and GP was concerned about the weight loss because I should not have lost any as not overweight in the first place. Now 8 stone. Trying to put weight on and eat healthily which is not the easiest job in the world. My friend's husband is diabetic and he is underweight so it is not true that it is due to being overweight or obese. One of my former work colleagues is obese and she is not diabetic. My friend's brother is 30 stone and is not diabetic. Not that I would advocate being that weight, I am not, as I have seen the effect on him trying to get into cars and the strain walking does. I am getting fed up with the media keep saying that diabetes is due to being overweight or obese.

Being a VETERAN I will answer this question with gusto!...... Before diagnosis in Jan I was 17.5st and 40" and a bit on the waist. At 5ft 10" that's a tad on the heavy side. Leaping to my defence I am now 64. At 27 I was still 5ft 10" ( surprisingly) and still an extremely fit soldier running about 30miles or so a week and extensive PT. I was 34" on the waist and 13st 6lb. Today I am 14st 3lb and STILL 5ft 10" now 35" on the waist. So in short. NO WE ARE NOT ALL RAKES! I am looking to work my weight down to between 13st 7lb and 13st 12lb. The diet and excercise and meds for a diabetic being sensible will put your weight, BP and general well being right on the money for your physique and metabolism as long as you stick to the plot. I think in older times most T2's had to control their weigh more by weighing out food and the medication wasn't anything like it is now.

I was happily in the middle of my BMI but with a bit of tummy fat at diagnosis; I lost half a stone in a couple of months when I went to a much lower carb diet but now my weight is more or less stable at 9 and a half stone for 5 foot 7 inches. It's probably the least I've weighed since my teens but I have lost a lot of muscle mass over the years.

One reason I was shocked at diagnosis was because "I'm not fat!"

6ft3ish and 13stone dead wouldn't say slim (more medium build?) as sometimes after burger and chips feel there's a fat man trying to get out!!

I was thin as a child, thin as a teenager (when I got T1) and am still thin as an adult. My weight hasn't varied much for all my adult life. Currently 66kg (10 stone 5) and 1.86m (6' 1"). I've always been reasonably active though.
