Hi Guys

Was just wondering if I could pick your brains ...

I am on 3 different ratios when I eat; breakfast is 2units:1CP, lunch is 1:1 and Tea is 1.5units:1 CP. I also have 2 injections of BI (levemir) morning and before bed.

My query is if I want a snack through the day what ratio do I use? Do I try and use the ratio im most closest too when having a snack or should I have a seperate ratio for snacks?
I try not to snack but sometimes I do and I dont want to deny myself the option of snacks as sometimes its healthy eg an apple. Yet im finding myself confused about what I should inject etc.

Thanks Em 🙂

Good question. I can't remember what Carol did. That's probably because she didn't snack much. I'd agree with what you said yourself.

Hi, although ratios for my little one are very different to yours, I do have a different one worked out for a mid-morning snack as the breakfast ratio of 11:1 was too much and her lunch of 18:1 too little, plugged for 15:1 which seems to work well those times she snacks. She rarely bothers in the afternoon but her ratios for lunch and tea are very similar so would be splitting hairs. 🙂

Hi Em,
try the ratio nearest to the meal. Do remember though to take into account that you have insulin on board (Active insulin) so you need to make an adjustment for that.
There are a couple of meters that you can program ( I can't remember their names) with carb ratios correction amounts etc. Ask your DSN for one. It's like having a pump wizzard but without the pump. Once set up all you do is tell the meter how many carbs and the meter will work it all out for you based on your blood sugar reading.

i would prob go for the ratio nearest to the meal one ... or split the difference if inbetween.... i try to keep my snacks below ten to 15 carbs so i tend not to inject with them, although i am very sensitive to insulin and am very active so can get away with more than other folk.....
