All my life i've been a compulsive snacker, usually crisps or sweets. They are out of the question now and although i'm not too overweight (borderline), is there an alternative although i am far more disciplined now.
I've heard good things about sunflower & pumpkin seeds, is this true? Also the odd walnut and an Apple. The seed thing interests me.

Seeds are good. I particularly like toasted linseeds but they're a bit difficult to eat without leaving a trail! Do yourself a favour and get the shelled sunflower seeds or you'll spend all day fiddling.

Other good things are pork crunch (those pork scratchings that are a bit like Quavers), nuts, biltong, little cheeses etc. I quite like those kabanosy too that you can pick up in the Polish bit of the fridge in the supermarket.

Incidentally, does anyone know if you can get shelled pistachios? I LOVE pistachios but they're a bit too fiddly for me to graze on at work and you end up with a big pile of shells.

Brilliant stuff DeusXM, thats reassuring and gives me loads of options, thanks. While Mrs Ianbilly is eating here Maltesers at the Cinema on Saturday i will be indulging in seeds or Babybels or Kabanos!!

I still have the occasional bag of crisps, but snack mostly on nuts (unsalted type) and pork scratchings.

Tesco has them online. They're about £5 for 250g 😱
How about shelling some at home to take with you.

Hi Stitch147, do you mean nuts like walnuts, cashews etc? What about dry roasted nuts?

Yep any nuts. I have some dry roasted, my favourites are walnuts and almonds.

I adore walnuts Asda sell them in 55g grazing tubs and the whole tub only has 1.8g carbs 🙂

I'm allowed pork scratchings on Atkins, but I'm afraid to snack at all since diagnosis...just been having 3 meals a day. I'm too scared to eat inbetween meals...me, a lifelong pigger! 😱

Why are you too scared to eat anything in between meals x

I snack on pork scratchings, peanuts (I try & restrict portions due to salt content) & cheese wrapped in ham. Also nibble on the odd gherkin too.

In case I mess up my blood. I imagine my blood going up and down! 😱

Don't talk about pistachios! I'm allergic. Nearly killed myself twice before I realised what was causing me to have heart attack-like symptoms. Now cashews, those I could eat till the cows come home. They'd be a good snack once you've got everything under control, I believe they're quite 'carby.' It's hard to stop at an ounce of nuts, I would want to eat the bag. 😛

Me too but if it's lower carb under 10g it shouldn't have too much of an effect on them, I've snacked on nuts, peanut butter, dark chocolate, a biscuit and been ok without taking any insulin, I know your type 2 but you will never know unless you try and that's no way to live the rest of your life hun - I was scared to eat anything really when I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago but I'm not going to let diabetes rule my life xx

I've just been told about roasted edamame beans 1.5g per pack carb wise, anyone tried these? Love the idea of pork scratching, always liked them anyway!

Pork scratchings grounded up also makes a good low carb coating for chicken.

I like these a lot.

What a ridiculous idea. As if anyone can sit there shelling delicious pistachios and putting them in a bag for later instead of eating them all there and then :D
I'm full of these silly ideas lol.
