Hi,

I'm am looking for recipes to make some healthy sugar free smoothies any help?

I used to make smoothies but didn't follow any recipe as such, it was always a couple of different fruits and some yoghurt, mashed together in smoothie maker, sometimes some fruit juice too.....no added sugar......🙂

Live drinking yoghurt, and either blueberries or mixed berries. No sugar needed if you include the blueberries.

Fruit smoothies can't be sugar free, as all fruit contains sugar. However, berries are generally the fruits lowest in sugar.

Bear in mind that with some foods, especially fruit and veg, pulverising them can raise the GI dramatically. If you have a lot, you may find it spikes your BG.

Wow thanks for that Rob had no idea this would raise the GI and we don't need that!!😱

Might be worth a try and see what happens.🙂

I know that some fibrous veg and fruit are only low GI due to their complex carb structure. Once you pulverise it, it can be metabolised in a jiffy.

I don't make smoothies very often these days, maybe once a month or so as a treat. Plus, I only use berries, no other fruit. I can't say I've noticed any particular spikes, but then my numbers are so awful, I'm not sure I would. Having said that, the spikes I'm getting don't appear to be food related. If I ever get to a place where things are steady, I'll start doing some serious testing to see what happens.
