yes i know about the chaperone but this time i was so uncomfortable and it hurt that i bled for a few days He said the magic words just relax and i tensed upJust a reminder that you can ask for a chaperone whether the person doing the smear is male or female. It can be helpful to have someone there just for you and not having to concentrate on what they’re doing. There is also the option to have a smear with anaesthetic at the hospital. You can also do an ‘at home’ swab which is just of the vagina and not the cervix. This picks up any signs of HPV which can help predict your risk of cervical cancer and whether you then need a smear or other exploration.
It’s not uncommon to have concerns about a smear for a variety of reasons.
The worst! And as if you can relax anyway. It’s way more helpful to remind you to breathe or to do something like move your feet so your brain is focussing on something else.yes i know about the chaperone but this time i was so uncomfortable and it hurt that i bled for a few days He said the magic words just relax and i tensed up
Thanks i know wot you mean by the panini pressSorry to hear your last smear was so awful. Tell them your bad experience before they start so they are aware how tense it makes you. If it is too painful they should stop and offer another appointment or alternative as suggested by @Thebearcametoo
I am so glad I don't need to have them anymore. Still have to get the old boob's done in the panini press though 😱![]()
