Starting on New Years day have been careful of what I'm eating. My weekly checks of BG levels were consistently over 10, and my weight of 15 stone 10 pounds gave me a BMI of 31. Starting on the 20th January I began to test my BG first thing on a morning, and two hours after my main meal of the day. After the first week my averages were Fasting 8.24, and two hours after my main meal 9.38. I have just completed my second week and the readings are 8.14, and 9.74. I am still experimenting to see what foods give me higher readings hence the higher second reading.
I have an appointment in May to see the diabetic nurse, and I'm determined to have lower and more stable numbers by then. I'm losing a couple of pounds a week too so hopefully that will help too.

Sounds as though you are on the right track, well done. We all have our ups and downs on this road, but the thing is to never give up and if you get a bad day, put it behind you. If you continue as you are doing you should have some very good numbers by May. Slowly but surely is certainly the way. Good luck with it. 🙂

Thanks Happydog. Some of the stories on the forum have helped me to realise that although my readings were high, they were nothing compared to a lot of T2's. When I read of people having HbA1c readings over a hundred, (mine was 69), and getting things under control, I realise it's well within my capabilities to do the same. That along with support like yours goes a long way to help.

Hi Chappy and welcome aboard! Sounds as though you are off to a good start. It's easy sometimes to feel you are on your own with this dratted disease but now that you've found the forum you know you will always be part of a community that cares and REALLY understands what it's all about. If you haven't already found the links at the top of the Newbie section of the forum then have a look through that - some good stuff there for we novices. I bought the Gretchen Becker book and have found it helps keep me motivated on difficult days. You are definitely doing the right thing with self testing.

That sounds like fantastic progress Chappy. We'll done. I find this forum, and daily testing, is really helping me manage my diabetes too.

Third week completed since I started testing twice a day, and delighted with the numbers. Fasting 7.4, 2 hours after main meal 7.0.

Show off:D

Keep up the good work, Chappy, you’re definitely on the mend, you've every right to be delighted.🙂

Great Work @Chappy
Heading in the right direction

Whoops!!! Don't know what happened last week, but my averages have gone up to 7.8 fasting and 7.9 two hours after main meal. I've also put 1lb back on, but I know that weight can be very uppy downy when on a diet.

Still great results! Keep it up 🙂

I think 7.8 from 7 doesn't count much.

That's the way to do it ! 😎

Well done Chappy. Great start for you. This is a good place for inspiration and information about others experience

Continuing with the slow but sure method! Weekly fasting BG average 7.5, and after meal average 7.1. My weight has also dropped to 15 stone. It hasn't been easy, but as I said to the wife, I'm not going to remedy 50 years of neglect in a couple of months..
