I've managed to slice the top of my finger open (don't ask) can I use ordinary super glue to stick it back together? It's not very deep just bleeding a lot as finger tips do :(

Go to a&E. In the meantime stick it together with whatever you have. Preferably sterile strips or plasters, but super glue as a last resort

Ouch!! That sounds like a trip to A&E, or steri strips and see if it stops.

My brother sliced the pad of his finger off whist he was staying with us With secateurs.
We did a ‘fingertip search’ of the bit of garden but didn’t find it. It was pumping out blood
so we went to A&E. Surprisingly it did grow back and looks all normal now.

A&E for a cut finger no way and I would not do an 80 mile roundtrip for it even if I had lobbed the tip off completely 🙂

My apologies for replying again, however as you described it, that isn't a paper cut. It is a shame that it is 40 miles to your nearest A&E, however the sooner you start, the sooner you may have a "whole" finger again. Good luck

No problem and I do appreciate the replies the 80 mile round tip is out of the question. Having MS leaves me extremely fatigued so I would not even consider attempting the journey also there's a slight problem with fuel down here as people are being very silly regarding filling their tanks so even if I could make the journey I do not have enough fuel in my tank.

Finger tip is now stuck together with super glue 🙂

Well done with your DIY first aid but I bet it stung like hell.

Hope it works out OK Sue (isn’t that what superglue was originally for?)

Did the bleeding stop? Have you got folks nearby you can call on if you need a hand?

Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get infected.

Yes @everydayupsanddowns it was known as the "Liquid Stitch" coming into use through the Vietnam war.

I'd be more concerned about the nozzle of our current tube being clean enough than the finger - God knows what mucky place it might have been shoved into prior to this - if the tube we have stashed in the Moho is even still liquid right now as it ain't a thing in daily use. If a not deep, straightforward cut bleeds profusely the blood and interstitial fluid usually does a pretty good cleaning job of the wound.

One thing is 100% true - @Pumper_Sue certainly ain't daft so if she has any doubts about it healing she'll get it checked out properly - though quite possibly easier to visit her local Vet. than A&E !

No worries it was a new tube 🙂 Sods law though it was the finger used to open my phone with, so now have to remember the password. It's healing well so no problems.

Pressure is key to these injuries I think, when I sliced the top of my thumb off there was no way I could have gone to a&e I felt too dizzy from the sight of the blood. I have kept steri strips in the house ever since, but was surprised how long I had to keep pressure on it for, and keep it high above my heart. Once the bleeding stopped the steri strips held it closed, covered with a bandage to keep it clean and it did heal. You do have to keep an eye on the wound and your bgs though (I find bgs tell me about an infection before I can see it) and see someone if any concerns.

Oh, you can add multiple fingers to your phone password, I had to add my other thumb!

Some additional notes/suggestions.
Most super glues come with a protective cap to keep the nozzle clean.
There is a medical version available as the industrial/hobby version while it will stick the skin is a more aggressive beast and generates heat while curing so will burn/blister your skin particularly if applied too copiously.
I used to work for Kodak and it was one of their eng chemists who invented the glue while trying to produce a clear plastic for film use, 1940 I think.

My mum saw the nurse at her surgery when she secateured the top of her finger last year - it was a nasty cut and took a long time to heal. The nurse dressed it, then mum (retired nurse) and her 3 sisters (2 retired nurses and a teacher) took it in turns to re-dress it. She didn’t want to bother the folks at A&E, like you @Pumper_Sue - I hope yours heals asap. Cut fingers can be such a faff!

Finger is fine now thank you, just a bit tender which is to be expected. Managed to find some stuff called new skin which has sealed over the skin flap. Lucky for me I never have a problem healing.
