Just reading a thread about the Australian gent who wrote a book about what to eat and he states skimmed is bad for you l have been using it for years, help confused or what!

If you've been using skimmed milk for donkey's years, then I suspect this Australian chappie is talking out of his proverbial!

Keep on with it, if that is what you like. Personally, I can't stand the stuff though! 😉

I'm a semi-skimmed man, myself (with the odd full cream indulgence every once in a very long while).

Andy 🙂

The issue with skimmed milk is it contains all of the sugar but none of the fat - fat slows down how quickly sugar enters your blood, so skimmed milk will be 'worse' for your blood sugar than whole. However, milk isn't THAT high in sugar so unless you are polishing off bottles of the stuff, you probably don't need to worry.

However, a good general rule is anything that is low in far is bad for you - most low fat foods have additional carbohydrate added to them to make them palatable. Those extra carbs mean generally they won't be lower cal than regular products (the greatest ever food con has been the conflating of low fat with low cal) and the additional carbs with no fat 'brake' means they will play havoc with your blood sugar.

I also have had skimmed long before I was diagnosed, although I only have it in tea and coffee these days. Can't stand even semi-skimmed now! 😱

I'm with Andy. Semi skimmed and the occasional indulgence.

I don't tend to take notice of these sorts of things - like deusxm said - unless you're polishing off serious amounts of milk daily then it shouldn't be a problem. 🙂

I've also been using skimmed for years in tea and coffee, but use semi skimmed for porridge (and the occasional coffee if there's no skimmed, or if I'm out) - I can't abide full fat milk now, it's far too rich for my taste, and even semi skimmed in tea is icky!

So I'm not going to worry 🙂
