Just been prescribed Sitagliptin today to take in conjunction with the Metformin and Gliclizide. Wondered if anyone else was on it or the same combination and have had good results or weird side effects? Thanks Sue

Sitagliptin otherwise known as Januvia.

The sheet I have does say that it is a valid combination, specifically the BNF says "sitagliptin can be added to both metformin and a sulfonylurea, if insulin is unacceptable because of lifestyle or other personal issues, or because the patient is obese."

Although the Blood Sugar 101 author seems to have taken a severe dislike to that particular drug.

Thanks for that. Obese doesn't quite fit the bill but 'doesn't want to get any fatter' might !!! My doctor seems to think its worth a trial for a month or two before the dreaded injecting has to start 😱

Hi Susie, My dad was put on Sitagliptin a few months back (the next step for him would be Insulin as well) and is getting on well with it at the moment. He has reduced his HbA1c by 1% so far. Good Luck 🙂.

Sitagliptin did not really cause a spectacular reduction. No return to 'normal' levels or anything. Side effects can affect sinuses and cause sneezes, watery eyes etc.
