Hi,
New to this....
Taking Metformin three times a day with my meals - as per instructions.
Now looking to increase to four a day - but I only eat three meals a day....
Do I just take one at bedtime on an "empty" stomach?
Will this upset me or prevent med working?
Silly I know.....

Generally when people take 4 they take 2 with breakfast and 2 with their evening meal. I would not take any Metformin on an empty stomach. I always found mid meal was best. I believe it states on the Patient Info Leaflet to take them with food.

My GP at first prescribed 3 tablets a day with 1 taken with each meal. The following day the diabetes specialist GP at the same surgery changed this to 2 tablets with breakfast and 2 with my evening meal. I have been on this regime for several weeks now but switched to the slow release formulation as it gave me the occasional loose bowel movement. This has settled down since switching.

Thanks for the quick reply - I'll try two in morning and two in evening....

I see you are Sukkarto, I only take mine once a day with my largest meal.

What dose? All at once? The pills are huge!

I take 3 ,I refuse to take more , as I also have IBS. They are big but the biggest brand of Metformin I had over the years.

Can’t give you an answer to your question but in the tittle where you said “Silly question”. No question is silly!

If you take slow release you can take all at once, otherwise 2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner. You get used to the size of them I can do them all in same mouthful now and I’m on the double size 1000mg tablets!

I can't take large pills as I have MS and have difficulty swallowing so I get liquid Metformin. Some times there isn't much of this available in my area but it is out there.
