Well, I saw the consultant on Friday but had to wait over two hours as her car had broken down and she had to wait for the AA. I read almost all the copies of Balance they had there while I was waiting. This is in between having more blood taken and being weighed, finding a vein was fun and they had to take it from my foot again (OUCH!). I have an enormous bruise there now as the nurse was a complete clutz.
Consultant says it's your funny pancreas and these things are going to keep happening till it finally gives up the ghost. Like that's news! It seems the blasted thing isn't quiter as decrepit as it seemed at first, my good behaviour, with the diet and exercise has let it recover a bit (I just knew it was all my fault!). She has given me a script for a 5mcg pen and upped the number of strips I can have. She wants me to test at least every two hours unless hypo and either use the 5mcg or the 10mcg depending on the readings.
We discussed the possibility of going on insulin but she says it wouldn't help at this stage, I'd have all the same issues if they put me on a fixed dose, and maybe even worse if I was on dialup as it would be virtually impossible to calculate the correct dose at any given time. According to her there are too many variables, what my BGs are, what the carb ratio is and what my pancreas' reaction would be. She reckons it wil be much easier to work such things out once my pancreas is finished playing games. I asked why she couldn't just wheech it out of there and have done? She thought I was joking.
So I'm stuck on the rollercoaster for the foreseeable. As I said, SIGH!
