Side effects of statins

I've just gone onto statins (6 days ago) and have had some lower readings than normal ,eg, morning reading of 5.0 and late evening reading of 4.0. Looking at my readings my levels are lower than they were before statins. Has anyone else had this experience ? Also been feeling at times quite light headed and nauseas and again wondered if anyone else had these symptoms when starting on statins ? TIA.

Not heard anyone reporting those as side effects - have you checked the PIL leaflet in the box?

I didn't experience what you describe, but I did have muscle pain with simvastatin which went away after swapping to atorvastatin.

Been on statins for years, without any problems at all.

I suffered nausea with statins, also muscle and joint pain. I no longer take them. Difficult to see how they could be related to lowering of blood sugar levels, so it would be worth looking into any other possibilities for this 🙂

There could be a mechanism of action if nausea affects your stomach emptying time, resulting in food being absorbed nearer to maximum insulin in blood stream time, resulting in lower blood sugars overall.

However, worth checking Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) for any mention of side effects etc, and if that doesn't answer your question, then ask a pharmacist (not a chemist shop assistant) - they're the experts and often really enjoy having a challenging query to answer.
