side effects of Alogliptin

PCSO sufferer for many years when when I had a complete hysterectomy(6 years ago) they found my sugar levels to be 98 (pcos hides levels), tried gliclazide then metformin getting up to 1500mg at night they decided to omit 500mg for Alogliptin 25mg as I need the toilet often, boy really bad move, now crippled with stomach pains and never ending trips to the loo, tried plain diet and even not eating with no effect has anyone else been effected like this

Are your symptoms something new or only something since your meds were changed. People do often suffer the stomach problems you describe with metformin especially at higher doses and find the slow release version more tolerable' The alogliptin works in the same way as gliclazide in encouraging the pancreas to produce more insulin whereas the metformin helps the body use it more effectively, both alongside dietary changes.

I would suggest you go back to your GP and say you cannot tolerate those symptoms.
Has your blood glucose reduced from the high level you were at. You should also ask for another HbA1C test if you haven't had one recently (within the last 3 months)

Yes, although sitagliptin rather than alogliptin. I stood it for about 2 weeks (some years ago, so details hazy) but stopped taking it when I was having to take Immodium every day. Nurse Practitioner at GP surgery very disappointed as she seemed to think it was a wonder drug. However, she then made the best move ever for me, changing my mixed insulin to basal/bolus.

I have been on both Sitagliptin and Aliogliptin without problems.

bloods down to 59 even managed to loose 2.5 st in lockdown , metformin changed to SR about 3 years ago, alogliptin is very recent and never felt so ill, will make appointment tomorrow

You could perhaps ask why they think you need the alogliptin if your HbA1C has come down, was the gliclazide a problem for you if not then why was it changed.
