It's affecting my sugars again :(

I've tested and got 3 readings all over 15 since half 11/12ish so I've no idea what it actually is!!

Had my lunch as was starving and am going to carb count for it. Am really annoyed with D at the mo!!! 😡

xx

That's bizarre! Surely it could only affect you if it was on the skin that you are testing? Unless there's sonething in it that causes stress hormones to push your levels up? Hope you get some reasonable levels soon - and chuck it in the bin! 🙂

Hi Teapot,

had to read a couple of times as did not understand what you meant?

Ive not heard of shower gel causing such problems before, are you sure its this? Could it not be your ratios etc? Hope you sort it out soon.

The shower itself could affect your levels with the heat. It usually sends mine down but a hot bath can send them up.

I wouldn't have thought it possible for anything like shower gel to be absorbed and unless it was pure glucose, I wouldn't have thought it would have that level of effect.

I would be tempted to look at other causes

It's a coconut shower gel, have checked the ingredients and can't spot anything obvious but I have had high sugars straight after a shower before when I've used the same shower gel and had okay levels beforehand....

I haven't got any lurgy symptoms and carb counted my brekkie okay - if it's not the shower gel maybe the diabetes fairy has paid me a visit!! 😡😡

xx

so annoying eh? sometimes you just dont know what causes it.

maybe have same brekkie tomorrow, different gel and see what happens?

I find that when I'm coming down with something that my BG's are raised a day or two before I actually feel physically ill. It's a kind of early warning system for me.

Half an hour after my last post my sugar was down to 13...

Seriously confused!!

xx

I'm calling it all the names under the sun at the mo! :D

Just praying that it is the shower gel and not the lurgy making a return :(

xx

Crikey Teapot, I hope you don't come down with anything so near Xmas. I have been fighting off something that keeps trying to break for a week now.
By the way you are washing in it aren;t you? Not supping it? Tee Hee.

Haha thanks lucy :D me too!! i only got rid of it a few weeks ago & was off sick from work for 2 weeks. The girl who sits opposite me does have it again though...

xx

Have some early nights if you can - it is holding it off for me, but its going to be a late one tonight. Mind you all the shopping is done, tree up, pressies wrapped, and weather permitting turkey arriving Weds so if I am going to get something, tomorrow would be better than xmas!!

Wish I was as organised as you Lucy! I'm still waiting for some gifts to arrive from t'internet!

Now sitting at 6.3 so fingers crossed for a less confusing day tomorrow 😛

ive never thought of shower gel affecting sugar levels so at a guess sugared body scrubs will affect me even though not eaten???

Just an idea and at this time on a SUnday morning when I got up early because I couldn't sleep is a daft one.

Have you got any wee sticks? If so try dipping one in the shower gel and see what happens, might give you more of a clue about the shower gel. I was told a long time ago if something smells sweet it probably has glucose in it somewhere, which is why it seems to attarct bees and wasps!

Thanks Caroline, better see if its been chucked in the bin! 🙂

What a clever idea!... It just shows getting up early works sometimes!

I can't see how the shower gel can affect your levels unless you're eating it. It can't be absorbed through the skin.

I can see how there may be a residue left on your fingers though. It is quite gloopy stuff and won't necessarily wash off completely.

Andy 🙂

Yes, that's what we were told by DSN. Don't use fruity handwash just before a blood test, as it might have glucose in it.
