I say go for it! Don't let diabetes get in the way of a takeaway now and then! I split my dose or multi bolus though.....splitting on MDI 3/4 up front and 1/4 an hour later always worked for me. 🙂

This 🙂

You can't let diabetes rule everything, and the key is everything in moderation - for ALL people! My DSN's all say this too.

Hope you enjoyed whatever you had x

Well everyone i was naughty last night. Sorry everyone who tried to tell me not to do it. I had boiled rice, and crispy shreaded chicken (i no i no naughty) i only take 2 injections of Humulin M3, so last night i did up my dose of this, as i was having a takeaway. Feel awful this morning now though. You know when you think, why did i do it?
Oh well, i havent eaten anything for breakfast, as i feel that my sugers are high. The doctors have told me to stop testing my blood sugars, i dont know if this sounds right or not. As you all know, i have been told different things by different people. So confusing right now. Anyway i have an appointment this morning in the doctors, to have my blood test, and then clinic on Feb 1st. When i go on 1st, i will be asking all the questions that i need to know. (sorry everyone for letting you all down on the takeaway) but believe me i am paying for it today :(

Several of us said go for it. It's very difficult to manage blood sugars at present or to learn for the future without a few, carefully timed & considered blood glucose tests, so hope you can get proper advice about self testing, plus prescriptions for enough strips to do this. Good luck with blood test today and appointment next week - hope you get some answers then.

No need to apologise to us. It's your body and you suffer any consequences.😉

If the doctors have said not to test, I presume because they're concerned that you're feeling depressed by the results. But I would suggest that your main area to concentrate on is finding foods that don't cause you problems and that you can stick to in reasonable amounts.🙂

See what the doctors say, be completely open and honest with them and hopefully they'll get you back on track. And I hope we can help you to stay on course rather than encouraging you to veer off it 🙄

Well everyone i was naughty last night.

No you weren't. You wanted to treat yourself to something you would not normally eat. This is completely fine and your team/clinic would probably support you in enjoying an occasional treat to keep you sane!

I had boiled rice, and crispy shreaded chicken (i no i no naughty) i only take 2 injections of Humulin M3, so last night i did up my dose of this, as i was having a takeaway.

I think your choice was very sensible. Plain boiled rice would be fairly easy to 'guestimate' the carb value of once you have a bit more experience - and you don't necessarily have to eat the whole portion! If you had chosen something with a gloopy sweet and sour sauce that might have raised a few more eyebrows 🙂

Part of your problem is that the insulin regime you are on makes it almost impossible to eat meals which have very different carb values. If you had been on 4 injections a day (also known as MDI or basal:bolus) it would have been much easier to try to match the insulin to the food because the rapid part that deals with meals is completely separated from the long acting part that deals with background glucose from the liver.

Oh well, i havent eaten anything for breakfast, as i feel that my sugers are high. The doctors have told me to stop testing my blood sugars, i dont know if this sounds right or not.

You should ask your Dr why they suggest you do not test. In these circumstances I feel that you certainly SHOULD have tested. You had eaten unfamiliar things and suspected you were high, and made a decision based on that. Assuming that you took your breakfast dose as normal (which you should have done) you could have ended up going hypo mid-morning if actually your BGs were fine when you woke up.

Sometimes when we expect to have high or low BGs the body can give a fair imitation of the symptoms to match. If unsure (and certainly if taking action based on a percieved BG level it's always a good idea to check.

Hope you enjoyed your meal last night!

Hi all.
Well went to get my bloods done this morning, and i asked them for a blood machine, and the nurse gave me on, i told her i would like to go back to checking my sugars as sometimes i dont feel normal, and need to know if my sugars are up or down. So i have just had lunch, will check them in a few hours and see what they are like.

Good plan to check blood glucose levels yourself. Do write down records of levels (mmol/l) along with notes about time of readings, time & amount of insulin doses, time of eating, what you eat, how much carbohydrate, physical activity, infections, stress etc so that you can review findings with a diabetes specialist at some point. Sounds a lot to write down, but it only needs to be notes, not full sentences, and there are so many variables that affect how much insulin you need. Best to check blood glucose before meals and 2 hours after, as it's the change that's significant rather than the absolute numbers.

Thats the thing, im telling myself not to and to have something healthy like a stirfry, but i really really want a takeaway. Any suggestions on something healthy from the takeaway?

The chopsticks?😉 Really I don't see why not, only as a treat and maybe just have half and freeze the other half for another time. If you can't treat yourself from time to time, then it's so sad. Also different people react differently to the food, some dramatically and some only mildly, so just keep testing, but enjoy it. Sheena
