Chinese takeaways are notorious for having bad effects on your blood glucose levels, unfortunately :( How about having a healthier stirfry instead? 🙂

Why not....................?

Count the carbs, consider the fat content, off you go............think of it as an experiment.........:D

Thats the thing, im telling myself not to and to have something healthy like a stirfry, but i really really want a takeaway. Any suggestions on something healthy from the takeaway?

Can of diet coke.....................:D

I'm with Northerner. That NRBoi is a trouble maker ! 😛

I would say that you would do better to concentrate on trying more stable meals and getting the control better before tackling a slippery customer like chinese.

Maybe a tesco(/supermarket of choice) quality healthy ready meal ?

half an hour in the oven or even microwave and you can eat without preparation or guilt. :D

Rob

Lol to eat i mean.
I always used to have Special fried rice, but have now gone on to Boiled rice. But i love the crispy shreadded chicken, is this good or bad?

Rob i think maybe you are right. I have having cravings for food like this 😡

I think that's just normal, diabetic or not. When I was trying to lower my HbA1c and get things stabilised, while trying to lose a few pounds off the waistline, I had to cut out a lot of things and portion sizes, but now I undestand better what to expect, there's not much I can't eat.

I hope you find that you can do the same.🙂

I know it may not help but many of the type 2 members can only dream of things like takeaways. Type 1s are luckier in many respects because we can eat almost anything if we inject for it. But there are times when we need to be a bit more cautious.

Rob

Thanks Rob, just find it really hard. Especially days like today when i really want one. Maybe on the way home, i will call in to Tesco.

I would say have one - with caution! The last one I had left me at a 1.6 not long after 😱. Sometimes you just need to have what you fancy though, just beware!

Hi Karen,

Let us know what you've ended up with Enjoy whatever you've ended up with!

Tesco - Takeaway

Chicken Jalfrezi 400G / ?3.00 / Carbohydrate - Half of a pack (200g) contains - 10.3g

Chicken Tikka Masala 400G / ?3.00 / Carbohydrate - Half of a pack (200g) contains - 12.8g

Chicken Bhuna 400G / ?3.00 / Carbohydrate - Half of a pack (200g) contains - 12.6g

Avoid the rice. How about crispy duck pancakes (with cucumber and spring onions) go easy on the hoisin or plum sauce though. I usually have crispy noodles instead of rice.

I had a Chinese meal in a restaurant, for the first time in years - work Christmas meal in December.

No problems at all - I had special fried rice with chicken in ginger sauce, with green tea to drink, then a pint of beer in pub before cycling home. Estimated carb content when I saw the plate and decided how much I was going to eat and matched insulin dose.

Very rarely have take aways or meals out (even rarer in 6 months since accident and being unable to run and have a pub meal on Thursdays) mainly due to cost, but not because I'm trying to avoid any particular type of food. Managing blood glucose levels after Chinese meals is just an extra challenge - go for it if you want! 🙂

Perhaps for me, cycling 1 mile before & after a Chinese meal was the key to good levels?

we all need to be naughty now and then just be aware of what you are doing and be surre it is only now and then ENJOY IT for me.

I say go for it! Don't let diabetes get in the way of a takeaway now and then! I split my dose or multi bolus though.....splitting on MDI 3/4 up front and 1/4 an hour later always worked for me. 🙂
