Hello,

My 3 year old is type 1 and we are isolating for 2 weeks due to him having Coronavirus symptoms (BG is through the roof!!). My question is this... Many of the shops have dedicated certain shopping hours for vulnerable and/or elderly people but as I am currently housebound I am relying on others to bring us essentials and we are rapidly running out of things (toilet roll, pasta, soap, cleaning products etc.) but I cant go to the shops myself with a letter to prove his diagnosis so what can I do? Any ideas? I've tried calling a few shops but you're on hold forever!!! Should I try sending someone with a letter and my bank card perhaps?

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks
Lian

I'd take a letter with you that confirms the condition with some I.D. of some sort that matches, anything that allows you to be identified as priority need. I cannot imagine the supermarkets not helping you. I have found local smaller supermarket stores to be easier to communicate with and easier to obtain items from over the past week.

Thanks, the problem is that I will need to give it to someone else to do the shopping as I can't leave the house. I think i'll ask a friend to take a letter from the hospital and my ID as proof. Thank you

I think that will work, they have a heart. Maybe even provide a telephone number on the covering letter so you can confirm also ? I doubt it would go that far but it'll provide reassurances. Good luck and best wishes to your little man. Keep us posted whatever you do - it would be good for us to share this crucial information.

My friend was just telling me her sister went to a small store, to purchase eggs and she also need her self. She took 2 boxes and tried to pay from them , refused to sell her both , despite telling her one box for her over 80 mum, who also has lung problems, and one for herself. They still flat out refused. The mum was insenced by this so rang a larger store of the same company , to be told it is up to the manager's discretion. The sister now does her mum's shopping with her husband and take a trolley each.
