Hi new to the forum,
just here to share my experience of the recent shielding notice.
received shielding notice on the 18th of Febuary and had it reversed on the 23rd or so i thought.
contacted GP who didn't have a clue what to do. at first he agreed with the shielding notice telling me it was upheld as my BMI was 43 until i pointed out that i had lost a lot of weight since my last diabetic review in October 2000 and they had missed a review in December which would have shown this and as as result i would not have been shielded. less than an hour later i got a call from the GP saying my risk was now moderate and i was being taken off the shielded list this time dropping my atrial fibrillation from the assessment, leaving only type 2 diabetes. i got a text message and eventually a letter. they weighed me the following week with no assessment using the correct BMI of 39 which could never haver produced a shielding notice with or without the atrial fibrillation., i kept getting letters from the local council offering me services for the extremely venerable and after two weeks contacted the GP who would not talk to me as i was still on the list. it took a lot of calls to the practice and them telling me that they couldn't do any more until I contacted NHS digital who told me how to contact the shielded list and get myself removed which took 10 minutes for them to confirm I was off the list. My GP is a disgrace. if it is of any help to anyone see your GP and get a letter from them confirming your removal from the list and send a copy to NHS Digital splpatientquery@nhs.net and they will make sure you are removed not your GP.

Just wondering for what reason you found just being advised to shield (but nobody actually forcing anyone to shield) you found so onerous/hard to bear?

Shielding is optional so I’m not sure what difference being on the list or not makes other than earlier vaccination?

Thanks for the reply,
unfortunately although shielding is said to be advice which you do not have to follow it is not for a lot of people because their employers do make them follow the advice which has happened to people I know who are now on statutory pay or benefits. in my case this almost happened if it were not for my Manager. If you are shielded this is on your permanent medical record which in my case should not have happened because a practice missed another diabetes review which is common place for them. as for the vaccine I was one of the first to receive the vaccine due to my profession so there was no benefit to me. I do understand your point of view but the real world is something different and shielding people for 6 weeks at what looks like the end of a pandemic is pointless when the only benefit is a vaccine a bit sooner, why not just give them the vaccine without the shielding?
but again thankyou for the reply.

Sorry to hear about the runaround you had with shielding and the problems it nearly caused with your work @TONY W

Glad you got it sorted in the end
