Hello campers!

I got my new Freestyle Libre today after a visit to my Diabetes Specialist Nurse and met the Abbott Rep who wore an amazing dress and carried out a very informative presentation.

When it came to obtaining the sensors however, I found the information was somewhat lacking. I've been advised I can get the sensors covered by prescription but I was not told how to initiate this.

I've messaged my GP and I'll be visiting the pharmacy to show them the website they need to register with to get them in...all a bit of a pain methinks.

My concern, was the Rep. mentioned calling the helpline to notify of my new Libre, (which I did) and to make it very clear to them I would be having sensors on prescription, (which I did) and had, what I can only describe as a 'look at the hand' attitude, when the operative said, 'oh, that's okay, just tell the pharmacist'...that was my advice from the Abbott helpline.

With inly 14 days to go before I have to replace the sensor I'd like to have this sorted but I'm worried this could all go horribly wrong.

Can anyone out there advise? Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaase?

Phone/see your GP as soon as you can, then once you've got the prescription it shouldn't be a problem for the pharmacy to get them. We are still self-funding the Libre at the moment (hoping to change that soon) and I can get sensors from Boots or Asda pharmacies within 2-3 working days. I haven't checked out all the pharmacies in the area but the ones I have seem pretty clued up on them already, so unless you live somewhere right out in the sticks then it shouldn't be an issue. Good luck (we love the Libre, hope you do too!)

Just be aware there are people reporting Boots are telling people they will only now supply with a prescription.

Thanks for this. I usually go to Sainsburys, who use Lloyds Pharmacy. They've never let me down to date...I'll keep you posted folks!

Adieu for now me hearties!
😎
