Seeing diabetic specialists face to face

Do I need to ask for these?
I don't believe so. The retinopathy screening is a national service and your GP ought to have notified them (so you should be invited in due course). The foot check (and blood tests, BP checks) are things your GP surgery should do, so should happen when they do a review (typically once or twice a year, though some checks might be just annual).

Come to think of it, those might equally be done by your hospital team. (I just know that in my case it's the GP surgery.)

I only get retinal scans annually and did not have one in my first year after diagnosis. Same for foot checks.
Remember, Type 1 tends to come on quite quickly. Unlike type 2, you are unlikely to have had it for a long time unnoticed and causing problems.

Type 1 and type 2 are different conditions with different treatments, different "causes" (no one really knows the cause of Type 1 as far as I know), etc.
Just because something is normal for type 2 does not mean you should expect the same for Type 1. And vice versa.

Co Durham: totally hopeless. I only get things done when I moan at them. Currently neither podiatry nor the GP want to deal with my PND.

I would ask about the foot and eye screening, to make sure someone is aware of this.

I haven't had a face to face appointment about my diabetes (other than bloods, eyes and feet) since well before 2020.

My first face 2 face with my DSN (who I have had for 2 years) is next week. I prefer over the phone with the libre etc and my bloods form my local GP, it is easier than traveling to the hospital. But this is about pumps (MDI currently) and she said she wanted to see me in person.
