Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
sorry to bother everyone but I wonder if I could ask your advice. I have been type 2 for over 10 years. I am about 5 stone overweight (can never seem to lose anything) and for years my blood sugar was monitored ok and I have controlled things diet related. However, since the lockdown, I was too scared to go for my blood test appointment (and I dont have a blood test monitor) I have lost my way a little eg missed some breakfasts/eating chocolate more to fill up etc and tonight I just keep wanting to go to the loo constantly and my fingertips are tingling. Is this likely to be my diabetes? I know I need to get a grip again but Ive been feeling low and I eat more when Im like this and I dont want to damage myself even further. Has anyone had these symptoms before? any suggestions what I can do to help myself/get rid of the symptoms? Would taking Glucophage help?

Hello and welcome to the forum,
It does rather sound as if your blood sugars are running extremely high :( So you need to try and get some exercise and reduce the amount you eat, also very important you ring your surgery Monday morning and talk to the diabetes nurse so she can help/advise on your next steps as you could well need some medication to give your pancreas a little bit of extra help.

Do you have Glucophage? If so and it was prescribed why are you not taking it? As yes it will help as prescribed for that reason 🙂

Hello @dmcd17 and welcome from me as well.

Sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time, and for many people the lockdown has certainly made things much harder.
As @Pumper_Sue suggest, it is important that you contact your GP or diabetes nurse and discuss your symptoms so that they can advice and give you some help.

It sounds as if it would be helpful if you are able to get yourself a meter if you can, so that you can be more aware of your blood glucose readings. Unfortunately it is unusual for Type 2 to be supplied with these by the NHS. one of the cheapest ones that many forum members use is SD Gluco Navii

Sorry to hear you have found lockdown difficult diabetes-wise @dmcd17

I agree that calling your surgery on Monday to arrange a phone appointment is very worthwhile.

The increased thirst could well be linked to high BG numbers, so you can begin to reduce them gently by cutting out the chocolate etc that you‘ve been snacking on.

Its also important that you tell your nurse that you have been feeling low, and that this has made things more difficult for you.

And keep sharing with us here too.
