I’ve had diabetes for 7 years now, unmedicated my HbA1c is 85.
I’m on ozempic and now it’s 64.
It was 63 in Nov and 64 now.
It’s not good enough but I haven’t cut out all sugary crap and I’ve decided I need to now (duh!)
Thinking 100-130g carbs a day
I have got a free sample of the libre continuous glucose monitor on its way. I want to try that for data gathering purposes as I can’t do the finger prick tests (mental health)
Hoping to feel less alone here

Hi @SparklesG and welcome to the forum!
I'm glad to hear you're wanting to turn things around for yourself. <3 Using Libre is a great way to see how your body reacts to all the different foods (i.e. some people swear off porridge in the mornings, while others handle it just fine), so I hope you'll find the things that work for you and can become your new normal as such. If you'll have any questions or worries at all - please feel free to share them, there's a lot of gathered knowledge and experience here, so someone always will have an answer :star:

Welcome to the forum
This link may give you some idea of the sort of meals you can have when looking to keep to 130g carb per day. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
It is a shame that you haven't been able to adjust your menu by doing finger prick testing but hopefully the Libre will help you identify meals which are OK
Just be aware that the Libre can have limitations and sometimes cause people to over react.

Welcome @SparklesG to the forum. Glad you have found us. Managing your diabetes can feel a bit relentless at times so it's good to reach out to other people who understand your journey.
Taking a new initiative to get your blood glucose down by diet changes is a great start. I fell of the wagon a bit over the Christmas/ New Year period which reflected in my increased HbA1c. Back to better eating habits with only occasional treats and upped the exercise levels.
You will get there so share your successes and feel free to vent if it's not going so well.
Wishing you well on your diabetes journey.

I can totally identify with overdoing things and ending up with a ‘bad score’
Onwards and upwards!

Hi @SparklesG and a warm welcome from me too 🙂. I have been using the Libre sensor for some time now and it's hard to imagine life without it, certainly been a game changer for me! Hope you find it just as beneficial. So glad you decided to join, you'll never be alone in this journey...

Great way to look at the change in diet instead of resenting having to cut out all of the sugary stuff, there's so much delicious healthy food you can enjoy 🙂 . I'm sure you'll like the sensor as much as I do, hopefully it'll be with you soon!

Well, I chopped and cooked and enjoyed every meal, experimented with different milks
And grand carb total for the the day is 75g

I DID IT!! Now I have a question- do I have to aim for 100-130g or is less ok?

unless you are on medication like gliclazide or one of the flozin mediations then you can have whatever amount of carbs you are comfortable with.
I think the suggestion of no more than 130g is from the idea that it represents a pretty good reduction from what many would have been having before diagnosis and isn't dauntingly low to make people feel they cannot do it. But the principal of eating to your monitor to make adjustment to your menu to keep meal rises to a good level.
Even if that is the aim people will vary over a few days, some a bit more some a bit less but it is all about what is enjoyable and sustainable for YOU.
