Hi Christine. Sorry you are feeling unwell. Nausea is a common side effect of Metformin. I was lucky in that although Metformin upset my tummy for the first few weeks, it settled down and now I'm fine with it. I take the same dose as you. There is a slow release version which is gentler on the tummy, so if your symptoms persist, you could go back to the doctor and ask about that.
Good luck and take care of yourself.

Err - whilst yes it could certainly be the Metformin - it is usual to start on a lower dose and build up gradually to whatever greater dose you need - and it takes weeks for each increase to build up to its full potential (2 to 3 weeks for every increase, including the starting dose, to give your body time to get used to it, since the side effects also commonly disperse at a few weeks) so at 5 weeks I wouldn't expect you do already be on the full whack.

Are you doing your own fingerprick blood tests at home to see if the Metformin is actually helping or not, or if you need to do something different like limit your carbohydrates more than you are already, if you are already at all?

I do definitely think you need to talk to your doctor about this again, to see what's best to do.

Thank you for reply i was told by doctor to increase weekly found i was struggling with nausea so dropped back to 2 a day from 3.I seen doc on thursday and he said had to increase to 4 because under 4 wouldn't be helping also no one has mentioned testing to be honest i feel over whelmed about it all

First of all, don't panic! You'll find lots of support and help on this forum. To be honest, in my 3 months since diagnosis, I've found more advice and wisdom on here than anywhere else!
Diagnosis is overwhelming and most doctors have a limited knowledge and limited time. Most type 2 are not given testing kits (presumably because of the cost). However, I bought my own blood glucose meter and test strips and it's the best money I've ever spent. Regular testing before and 2 hrs after meals has helped me to understand the effect of different foods, and portion sizes, on my blood sugar levels. Have a look in the advice to newbies section on here for more info on self testing and general advice on eating.
I've stuck to a low carb, nutrient rich diet and tried to be as active as I can every day. It takes time but it's worth the effort.
Good luck!

I got a meter and used it to ensure my BG levels stayed low, eating low carb foods and that is all it took.
