hi, just saying hello and looking forward to being a part of this forum. Was diagnosed with type 2 in Oct last year and am coping well so far. Keen to work with a local group in Derbyshire (can't find contact details) and help others when struggling. Thanks.

Hi JaynieD, welcome to the forum 🙂 Good to hear things are going well for you 🙂

Have you tried looking for a local group here:

Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be happy to help! 🙂 Good for you, wanting to help others 🙂

Welcome to the forum, JaynieD. It's possible that there is not a support group close to your home / work. If that's the case, Diabetes UK will help you set up a new group, if you're willing, perhaps with others who have expressed an interest.

Welcome J, how have you been finding your journey so far?

Welcome. I hope you can find a local group.

Hi @JaynieD and welcome to the forum.

Hello JaynieD, welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi all, thanks for your acknowledgements and help with finding a local group. Diabetes UK have forwarded my details to a local group so I'm just waiting for them to contact me. Been for my 3 month check-up today and all good, HBA1C 35, weight down another stone (5 in total now) but cholesterol slightly higher. I'm following LCHF diet and was concerned this might have a negative impact on my cholesterol but interested to read in the forum that it's normal for it to fluctuate. Was offered statins or ace? Really want to manage with diet and lifestyle and this is being supported by my practice nurse. She's also an advocate of LCHF so that's a bonus.

I said in my 'hello' post that I'm keen to help others. I was lucky enough to be offered an Xpert course quite soon after diagnosis and got lots of information and support during it. Would recommend this to anyone if it's offered. Be openminded. Of course, there's no 'one size fits all'. Our educators were supporters of LCHF but gave just as much time and information about Mediterranean and Low Calorie diets. I benefited so much that I'm considering doing the training myself and combining it with my real job as a coach (life, not sport) to support others.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Welcome JaynieD. Good to hear there are some advocates of the LCHF diet. As I lived through the "low fat" era I find it very difficult to eat a lot of fat if I am honest although I try to have some. Sounds like you have a lot of support there. I read that Michael Moseley advocates the Med diet too, although not with all the pasta in it though.

What a fantastic job you have - life coach.
